Sophmores to look for?

I am wondering what people think about this years sophmores and who will be getting D1 scholorships??

Sophomores from Alexandria - Michelle Anez who has 55 points this year is definitely D1 bound. Ally Nielsen and Stacey Paulzine are also looking very good. I'm looking forward to seeing them really step up next year.

My apologies WN4E - I don't have time to peruse all the forums to see if a "moron" is on the loose. I certainly don't see any names mentioned by the author of the thread here.

Name dropping - whatever you consider that is - is the heart and soul of this kind of thread. The three players I named are not related to me and I believe they are sophomores "to look for" when watching a game they are playing. D1 was brought up by hockey111 and I'm not sure what your warning means. Perhaps you had a bad experience? If you watch Michelle Anez play I'm sure you'll agree she has the potential for D1.

I don't think Hockeyrube was talking about you. I think he was seeing that the person starting this thread has mentioned 2 sophmores on other threads. Because of this it appears to be more of a self-interested PR blitz than a query.

Not a warning at all, and no to the bad experience comment, more just a statement, and nothing pointed at anyone directly. Thought that was what this was, a discussion-thread? I have seen several kids deamed at U12 through 10th grade, "the next Wendell", and "for sure D1" for years, and in the end are never heard of again, and end up playing D3 or nothing at all. Just the nature of the beast is all. I have seen Anez play and she is a very good player, no doubt about it! But from another thread it appears she will have to wait in line behind all the D1's that will come our of Chaska. The difference from a Fresh/Soph age kid to a Junior/Senior age is huge! You add in injuries, cars, jobs, friends, and yes even the significant others in to their lives, and things change. This was the point, if there was one.

And sorry no, I don't care for name dropping, I think that is a huge waste of time with this forum. Yet some seem to feel that is all this is about. If name dropping is what it is all about for you, take a full page add out in LPH, and hopefully that will get that kid in to a D1 school, or maybe a hwy billboard add. I believe in non-bias communitation about a hockey and yes the players involved, so maybe I am reading the wrong threads in this case and appoligize.

perhaps i would just like to know more players if you would like me to name other players that are sophmors i most definantly will and if you look at other forums i have not just said two names. i dont even know the two names you are talking about. i state facts and opinions and do you see me naming any people on this forum i am very intersted in who the underclassmen are.

Wow! Shophmores and D1 scholarships. Man, there is alot of ground to cover between 10th and 12th grade. You have your stand outs now and by the time the hit 12th grade they were the kids that had potential at one time. Then you have the kids who in 10th grade were ok, but it clicked and when the senior year rolls around they posess mad skills. IMO for girls its really hard to say a 10th grader will be D1 when it's all said and done, usually they go through some maturation at that time and their talent and ability can stagnate pretty quickly. See it in basketball quite often. I think a more reasonable name for this thread would be : sophmores, who has potential to become an outstanding talent by their senior year? I'm sure we'll see some passionate discussion on this one :o)

I think 10th Grade is a great time to start looking at girls as far as D1 talent goes. Girls are not like boys, most of them are done growing and developing physically by 10th grade. This is why you see so many 7th and 8th graders that are contributing at the High School level. That is pretty rare for a boy to even compete as a 9th grader. I know there are the rare cases, but most of the time if a girl can dominate as a 10th grader they will probably do it as a senior too. I understand your point about name dropping though. There are only so many D1 hockey players coming out of each class.

OMG, it's the thread that wouldn't DIE!! Now we are stepping even furhter back in age? 7th and 8th graders are only competing at girls HS because, first of all they are allowed too, and second of all most schools don't have a choice. This is a rediculas thread, and needs to GO AWAY!! If you think for one second that a 7th grader or even an 8th grader is nearly as fully developed enough to call them full grown, either physically or mentaly for sure you are a lost cause already.... Example: If a school has 10 seniors and 5 juniors, do the 7th graders play, I don't think so. That is how HS boys work, by numbers, not nearly the same as girls. I hate to allert you, but these are two completely different sports right now. Edina, Wayzata, and WB are good examples, take a look at how many 7th/8th graders play for either, oh yeah that is right they don't allow them, they have numbers.

Please remember that girls HS hockey is still in an infancy stage.

I don't believe you can project with any certainty what will become of a player in their junior and senior seasons, and certainly not if they are D1 scholarship worthy. But here's a name-dropping thread that's been ongoing for some time; knock yourself out:

HOWEVER, being that this is the end of the season, we need to remember these players will be juniors the next time they lace up, the critical time for them to show their best in the classroom and on the ice in 08-09. It's safe to say if a player is worthy of a D1 scholarship she will be contacted in the summer after her junior year-- so that leaves roughly one year and a bit more to make an impression. No one is a shoe-in, but given the limited number of scholarships and the large pool of players from not only Minnesota, but the other states and Canada as well, any junior with D1 possibilities would almost have to be the best player on their team and a strong performer in the NDC in 08-09.

Sam Hanson is a great asset to any team, she absolutely deserved to be there. She is the first 8th grader taken by this coaching staff. As for Sophs to keep an eye out for? Maddie Marcotte, solid defense for the Bears.

Oh I know she deserves to be on the team. I have watched her play quite a bit this year and she fits in. I am happy she showed some loyalty and stuck around to play for her HS. You don't see that very often if the grass appears to be greener at the Hill.
