It's going to be a helluva double header in Cloquet next Thursday, I look forward to being there.
Aren't the semis a week from saturday? If they are on thursday i wouldn't be able to make it

i got two questions

One which would be a better championship
SCC vs. SR
HTown vs. Denfeld i'm not saying it'll be one of these i just figure that these are the best rivalry match ups?

second of these four teams which one would have the best shot at state title i know hermantown has lost two close ones on the road to DM and IF out of 7a. Denfeld has played a close one with Warroad. What about the other two?

Anyone know exactly when this final is? I'm assuming it is on Wednesday the 27th (as posted on PHN), but have also heard it is on Friday the 29th (as posted on Minnhock).

The MSHSL website says it's the 27th.

I'm sure it will be fairly packed, but it will completely depends on who makes the final.

Can the new 5a section live up to the old one of BSM, Breck, Totino, and Blake. Where almost every year the team to come out of it won state?

The old 5A won the state tourney only one time between the 02-03 season and 06-07 season (one title in 5 years)...they had a streak of four titles in a row (99,00,01,02)...that makes five state titles for section 5A since the introduction of the 2 class system in 1993-1994 (forget tier system)...hardly winning every year in my book.

BSM - '99, '01
Totino - '02, (Second in '05)
Breck - '00, '04
SLP - (Second in '03)

Your right George, but making it to the state championship (I know i previously said won) every year from 99-05 is pretty impressive I don't know if teams from this section could do it. or could they?

I don't see it happening...but they will put some good teams on the ice at state for the next couple years...Still waiting for Cathedral and Sauk Rapids to get moved to a more Central Minnesota section...

I don't see why the winner of this section wouldn't have a shot at the state championship game. There is no one team that absolutely dominates Class A hockey IMO. This section has 4 of the top 20 teams in the state. You have Cathedral in the top 10 with Hermantown and Denfeld both in the top 15 and I'd say Sauk belongs in the top 20. Denfeld played 3 of the current top 5 teams in Class A hockey right now: I Falls, Duluth Marshall, and Warroad. They lost to I Falls 4-2 with an empty netter at the end but had numerous chances to tie in final minutes. They outshot DM but lost 3-2, once again they missed crucial chances to tie in the final minutes. The one top 5 team they beat was Warroad. I was at all 3 of these games and it was obvious Denfeld was able to hang with some of the best Class A teams in the state. Since they lost to SCC, SR and had just a 1 goal win over Hermantown, those teams can obviously contend as well. I see no reason why the winner of this section can't make the State Final and I wouldn't be one bit surprised if they do.

Just my $.02

Your absolutely right professor. You have 4 solid teams here. You like at Denfeld and they are one of the most explosive teams in the state with that first line they have. Hermantown and Cathedral are great defensive teams and they say defense wins championships, and Sauk is just a well balanced team who has beaten some quality opponents. State championship for Sauk? No. But they could come out of this section.

Anyways...
