Easy SECTIONAL "PICK 8" contest
Okay, we are rounding the final turn and passing the 1/8th pole of the season. (Ever see the cartoon as a kid where the track announcer says, "he passes the eighth pole...he passes the ninth pole"? Classic.)
The winner of this contest will be the person that correctly has all eight (or the most if nobody gets all eight) on their make-believe mutuel ticket with the least amount of money spent. Just like at the track where you wonder how much to throw at Pick Six, here you must judiciously allocate your pretend money.
Assume each ticket is $1 and box or wheel away!
Mine:
1 - Lakeville South, Rochester Mayo, Rochester Century
2 - Edina
3 - Rosemount, Eastview, Woodbury
4 - Hill-Murray
5 - Centennial, Blaine
6 - Minnetonka, Benilde-St. Margaret's
7 - Anoka, Duluth East
8 - Roseau
I was going to have a cap of $100 (mythical, of course, since we unfortunately can't open a mutuel window), then realized that doesn't make any sense. If you want to pick that many teams it only will hurt you in the event someone else picks an equal number of winners at a lower cost.
After you've listed the names of your choices for each Section, please indicate the "cost" of your entry.
3 x 1 x 3 x 1 x 2 x 2 x 2 x 1 = $72

New math, Ellie? That's a dollar. I've got your entry. It would be pretty awesome to pick all eight with your only shot.elliott70 wrote:

Bump
Bump.
One more day for anyone that wants to get in.
Interesting approaches. Some of us dropped $72 and others have taken a shot with as little as a buck.
If Lakeville South doesn't take Section I it will be a pretty narrow field.

I want him doing my taxes. Once I explain the difference between the addition key and the multiplication key, of course.O-townClown wrote:New math, Ellie? That's a dollar. I've got your entry. It would be pretty awesome to pick all eight with your only shot.elliott70 wrote:

good one
Lee, the only thing Elliott is guilty of is not spending enough time at Canterbury Downs! And that's a good thing. I can see how people wouldn't figure out the cost of a Pick 6 ticket. You only really pick up on it when you place a lot of bets!
I'm curious to see if the $1 approach bears fruit for anyone. I wasn't comfortable until I covered $72 worth and I still need Edina to get by Burnsville, Holy Angels, and Jefferson.
