Hill Murray vs Moorhead 2-16-08

final game for the pioneers before sections as they take the trip up north. I am still confused by the game time though. our website says 4:00 but FSN says 6:00. Anyone have a final word on time?

JV plays at 4 so the varsity game must be at 6.

The HM defense needs to tighten up a bit more for the playoff run.
Phillipi also needs to maintain concentration for a full 51 minutes. This game could help to show their readiness for sectionals.

With that said, HM by 1 5-4

I just called the Moorhead Sports Center and they said the game is at 6:15 I also see that their schedule on the Classic Suburban Conference website shows 4 and 6

huge for the Spuds if they come out with a win....could be a scary team if confident during sections.

I'd expect a close game with a lot of goals. I wouldn't mind seeing Moorhead get some steam to get ready for sections. They really only need to beat one outstanding team to get to state, so will be interesting. Probably would hurt the confidence to get plowed at home last game of the year.

I'll say H-M 6-5 in OT

I think Moorhead will surprise some people tonight and beat Hill-Murray 4-3. Should be a packed house!

Final: H-M 4, Moorhead 3

Yet again, another great game to be televised on FSN! Moorhead came out and played much better than most may have expected. The game itself was pretty back and forth, while Moorhead's goaltender made some outstanding stops on a H-M power play during the 2nd period. Most of all, it was great to see 3rd line center Lou Metcalf shelf the winning goal with just under a minute left. It had to have been a tough one for Moorhead to swallow, but they shouldn't back off as they have a club that could knock off Roseau on a good night.

Great ending to the regular season! Best of luck the rest of the way to both the Pioneers and Spuds.

Moorhead v. Hill-Murray

Post by knotts »

Spuds outplayed Pioneers for a majority of the game, and were the better team tonight. However, Hill got the big break they were looking for in the final seconds and got a breakaway resulting in the winning goal. If Moorhead plays like they did tonight against Roseau, they have a very good chance of knocking them off in sections.

I was disappointed in Hill's performance tonight. Yes it's a nice win against a solid program, but Hill has some issues. I will not be surprised at all if they do not get out of sections (keep an eye on Roseville). Hill is way too careless with the puck & Hill's D scare me! They struggle way too much getting out of their own end & in a tight game in sections, one turnover may end their season. You wanna beat Hill, pressure their D, it's been that way for years. Hopefully they will continue to score goals to overcompensate thier precieved weakness (in my book).

But a win is a win & congrats on a fine regular season guys. Good luck from here on out & let's hope there's a string of 6 wins awaiting ya!

PP, you were the one talking me out of my disappointment early in the year. The kids are what they are, which is not a great defensive team. They really miss the stud defensmen that teams like Minnetonka and Roseau boast. That is why Hill in a tier below. But also remember, we have 6 defensemen, 2 of which are seniors, 2 juniors and 2 sophmores. Those kids will be better next year and we still have the firepower to beat anyone. We're still weak on defense and Flip doesn't make enough high end saves although can't think of any goals tonight that were his fault. We'll make it through sections, but only due to the fact the rest of the section is so down this year.

A win is a win and the pioneers pulled out the win tonight. Flip saved the game for the Pioneers. He got left hanging over and over by the D and made some great saves. And I was impressed by the Hill student turnout, I think there were 7 people there.

I'm not making excuses or saying one side should of won, cause I'm not a fan of either team. However, can anyone explain to me why that wasn't a 5 for the check from behind at the end? In HS hockey the refs need to call that everytime regardless. Don't think I've seen a more prime canidate--really dumb play by the HM player. If you see the numbers don't do it--much less take a run from the top of the circle.
