And you may get a coach that will give you something inspirational that will carry over to other sports and life.boblee wrote:Play baseball. A lot of times the time away from hockey is beneficial.

Well, you have to factor Waite Park into the equation.Cornermukker wrote:elliott70 wrote:Especially true, if you live in Bemidji.

That is a good one...So how will the 12 year olds be this year? Baxter- Bemidji State final?
But I could see Baxter-Bemidji in the finals.
And of course, Bemidji waould win as their coach would be all over Joe P.

[quote="elliott70"]I really enjoy baseball.
Good thing as I have been doing it since 1989.
Year #20 coming up, god I am getting old.

Elliott they say it is always good to try something new
you will never know till you try it. Tier 1 Lacrosse might just be the way
to really bring allot of the Northern Hockey kids together in the summer
and it might even help the hockey numbers grow. Who knows you might
even get a couple who could play for the Storm someday it's never to
Late to try something new.

Summer Hockey vs Baseball
Do whatever your son/daughter wants to do. Do NOT force them into one sport over another. Hockey is a grinding season, especially at the upper ages and kids need a bit of a break or they can burn out and lose that edge. Playing other sports develops a young person athletically and gives them the break that some need........
We had a lacrosse program for a while.5thgraders wrote:elliott70 wrote:I really enjoy baseball.

I believe it is now operated out of Cass Lake, but Bemidji kids play there.
My son played lacrosse, I still have a stick (whatever its called) and one of those hard, orange, rubber balls at my house.

Baseball and hockey couldn't be more different. And I couldn't think of two sports that would make a kid more well rounded, athletically and mentally.
No matter how good a kid is at hockey, I think it's a good idea to play ball in the summer. Along with hand-eye coordination, baseball teaches mental toughness unlike any other sport. There's nothing better to teach a kid how to be mentally tough than committing four errors in one inning and having to go to the plate and try to redeem yourself the next inning. (not that it's ever happened to me
)
And you never know what might happen...Remember Jamie Hoffman from New Ulm. He was drafted to Carolina out of high school and had a full ride to Colorado College. That summer he decided to play one last year of Legion ball with his friends. And it just so happened that Schugel (a major league scout) was back in town for a reunion and saw him play. He signed Hoffman to the Dodgers organization. And if I'm not mistaken, he was invited to spring training with the big boys last year.

I play both LAX and baseball but baseball is my favorite. With lax you get that bad hockey gear smell even worse and I'd like to get away from that for a while. still do some aaa hockey and a camp but only so many hours in a day and days in the summer. I find golf very humbling javascript:emoticon(':oops:')

I was at the hockey expo last year and saw
a company that has a locker to store your hockey gear. It dries it and
deodorizes it I see no reason it woudn't work for your LAX gear as well.
It might work so well you could even possibly get a date for the weekend.

playing hockey in baseball season
is there a way for a group of hockey players (probably AA baseball players in their home communities) to play in a league or tournaments that are not residency based? I'm not talking about an all-star team. Just regular kids whose hockey schedule will not allow them to play even their local rec ball. I know, too much hockey....their choice. I am the one who doesn't want to give up sitting in the bleachers quite yet...
