This Fleet has a very relaxed chain of command. There are no orders, just helpful advice. Come Thursday, the advice is this,

1. avoid early head-on engagement with the #1's
2. hit and run
3. stick and move
4. slow the pace
5. ice the puck
6. tell the goalie to freeze everything
7. grease the Zamboni driver to dump a few extra hundred gallons down on the resurfaces
8. no penalties in the attacking or neutral zones
9. Third Fwd is never, ever, ever to be below the top of the circles
10. shorten the bench at your earliest discretion
11. make it a 17 minute game.

If I can add a some words of advice:

12. consider using two goalies or, at a minimum, station a sacrificial third line wing in the crease
13. no matter how ugly it might appear, there really is no such thing as an ugly goal for these guys. do whatever it takes to get the puck in the net

Well Chico, the rules of the game aren't going to allow for 2 goalies but you are right about ugly goals, they all count the same.

Ugly ones, cheap ones, and disputed ones of all kinds are gladly accepted by The Fleet.

Down in Section 1A and 1AA:
USS La Crescent
&
USS Dodge County

are mapping their course.

I think La Crescent's course looks like it will take a defensive position and not allow Lourdes to fire its big guns from tight quarters.

Dodge County's course looks like they will use the Russian tactic of burning the village to leave nothing behind for Lakeville to live on....i.e. just freeze the puck every chance, ice it every chance, delay the game every chance...slow the game down so much that Lakeville has very few offensive opportunities.

The Fleet of Eights will see heavy combat come dusk as eight vessels will be engaging the 1st Fleet. Losses for the Eights will be heavy but they will battle in hopes of pushing at least one of their own through the blockade. It is rare, but YES: It Can Happen

#8 Bloomington Kennedy vs. #1 Edina
#8 Park vs. #1 Rosemount
#8 Cooper vs. #1 Minnetonka
#8 LeCrescent vs. #1 Rochester Lourdes
#8 Redwood Valley vs. #1 New Ulm
#8 Princeton vs. #1 St. Cloud Cathedral
#8 Eveleth vs. #1 Duluth Marshall
#8 Crookston vs. #1 Warroad

Individually they fight, United they stand.

I think Kennedy, LeCrescent, and Eveleth are really up against it.

Park and Cooper I know nothing beyond YES: It Can Happen.

Princeton had some nice efforts vs. Buffalo and Virginia.

Crookston has faced Warroad twice (5-1, 2-0 losses), also they have shown the ability to hang around on the scoreboard versus teams that will outshoot them 3 to 1.

Redwood plays a team that is #98 in PS2, I've come to know the 90th percentile pretty well over the years and they all have one thing in common, they are capable of winning and losing everynight out.

No, it won't happen.
There are a lot of doubters out there like elliott70. One day, maybe he’ll be right. There may be no hope for the Fleet of Eights, the elliott’s of the world will decree the law of “no it won’t happen”. One day there will be no Shanty to repeat YES: It Can Happen. One day The Eights and their broken spirit won't even show up to play. One day the powers at hand won’t let the big seeds play. Or worse, they’ll be cast off into a segregated system based on elitism and Tier play. Well, I’m hear to say that that day, is not this day, because today, the Eights have a chance and they have the defiance in them to stand in the face of adversity and prevail.

Well stated Admiral Shanty!

One of the reasons we follow our leader Shanty, (shown here) is because he knows the most about seeds. Being Ballchinian by birth makes him a natural.

The Fleet of Eights may fall, but they will not go silently into the night!

I'll have my life vest on, so if the final ship goes down I'll be able to hitch a ride with the Fleet of 7's or 6's... There will be a ship to pass the flag to.

Happening games to keep an eye on tonight.

(7)Winona vs. (2)Owatonna

(7)Proctor vs. (2)Sauk Rapids, Proctor solved Superior WI, why not Sauk?

(6)Shakopee vs. Jefferson(3), Jefferson is one of the lowest scoring teams towards the top of PS2, lack of lightning leads to little margin for error.

Proctor game jumped out at me, too.

Also:

(6) Orono vs. (3) Mound - Westonka
(5) Hastings vs. (4) CDH
(7) Eagan vs (2) Woodbury

A 2 or 3 seed WILL lose tonight, (there's always upsets), who will it be?

There they are, the Big Guns are all still in formation as the Richfield/SLP game has gone final. They must have played at least 40 OT's because that game started nearly 24 hours ago.

Hey, some of us lack access to computers during the day to post results. Don't hate.

I am glad, as I think Richfield is one of the top 3 teams with a shot to make it happen.

That's exactly why they are one of the Big Guns leading the convoy.

The proof is in Cretin-Derham Hall Girls...

#5 seed in their section, beat the #1 team in state (Roseville), beat the defending state champ also #4 in state (Stillwater) and then just knocked off Benilde in the first round of the state tournament. Talk about WHITE HOT. Good for those girls. I bet they inspire Kennedy tonight!
