The Mound goalie is a net kicker, the worst kind of goalie. Three called off goals??? C'mon, anyone with a brain has to question that. Did Mound bring their own Ref's?AllAmerican7 wrote:Mound 3 Orono 2 end of 2. Orono vs. Mound Westonka Round 3!
Moderators: Mitch Hawker, east hockey, karl(east)
That's your excuse for losing? LOL - What a joke.winger91 wrote:The Mound goalie is a net kicker, the worst kind of goalie. Three called off goals??? C'mon, anyone with a brain has to question that. I'm not from Orono. Just callin' it the way EVERYONE saw it. Whatever you need to win I guess, forget actually BEING a good goalie or defensmen, just push the net off. It's okay, you were scared, it's understandable.Reidy09 wrote:That's your excuse for losing? LOL - What a joke.winger91 wrote:The Mound goalie is a net kicker, the worst kind of goalie. Why are you coming down on Mound for that? Shouldnt the ref's be blamed. If those goals went in it would have been a completly different game, all the way around. The fact of the matter is the refs had a rough game but that isnt an excuse or a reason for a win for either team. They still played the game...winger91 wrote:I'm not from Orono. Again, rivalry games get that way. I doubt very much that Hurd was the only one getting lippy. Both teams were chirping and thats what makes games like this one a BLAST to play in. Hopefully it all ended after the final horn.Goldy23 wrote:.mngopherfan wrote:I was at the game and i saw it. Hard to be happy about his antics but Mound and Orono hate eachother, paired with it being playoffs and him being 17, emotions sometimes take over. Dont crusify the kid for one game. The Orono student section was even more classless, thowing stuff and spitting at Mound's coach...that is classless.Goldy23 wrote: His antics last night were a bit of a disgrace to his team. Hard to root for any team with a schmuck like that on it. You'd hope the coach would reign him in a bit as he is a decent player, but his crap detracts from what actually is a pretty good team.
Didn't see that, no excuse for that either. Certainly a heated battle. Your correct on the crucifiction thing if it was just one game, but I 'm not sure that's not his M.O. I've seen this team on several occasions this year and it seems to be a bit more than a one off event. The kid was taunting the Orono bench and fans alike with some pretty crude gestures. All I'm saying is that should Mound get to State-which they very well may-and the camera's pick that stuff up it's going to be an embarassement to the team, the school and his parents.
The ref's were awful, but they weren't pushing the net off.mngopherfan wrote:Why are you coming down on Mound for that? Shouldnt the ref's be blamed. This was a very good game for 2 teams with above average skills and well matched.
The fact that Nelson kicked off the net 4 times and Hurd tossed the net off once takes away from the win. It may not have hurt them vs. Orono but you can be assured that other coaches noticed and will flag this for the referee's before the next game.
I was also in the vicinity when the refs' literally came up and apologized to the Orono coaches for their performance - enough said. Let's just say if that were their best effort it's too bad.
The bottom line - Mound should feel pretty fortunate to have won.
Persian put on a clinic in the 3rd period. 3 goals, 2 pipes and a shot off Nelson's head. With a lucky bounce, he could have had 5 or 6 goals in the 3rd period alone. He will be fun to watch as a senior.
But...Orono's done, Mound moves on. Good luck Mound.

All you people coming down on Hurd must not have been watching the guys in blue, because I saw on many occasions, Orono players making obsene gestures towards the Mound bench, punching players in front of the net, being just as "classless" as Hurd. He plays tough, that's what he does, if you don't like it, go play soccer.

Wow, I wonder how many people trashing on Mound actually are unbiased people?
The fact is that both teams hate each other in one of the more heated rivalries in Minnesota High School Hockey. Both teams played really dirty, and both teams hate each other.
But it doesn't matter how you got there, Mound beat Orono, and that's what the box score will show.

What will the boxscore show Wednesday? I predict a 5-3 Breck triumph! Forget the fact the he's cheap, their D/goaltending probably isn't State Tourney worthy. 9 goals to Orono!!!Papabear06 wrote:Wow, I wonder how many people trashing on Mound actually are unbiased people?

umm
I would hardly put Mound in the same class as Orono. 5 State tourney appearances in the last 6 seasons compared to 0 all the while being in the same section. 7 appearances overall compared to 2.
The game has always been highlighted by Mound players feeling an overjoy by beating Orono. The fact is this, before the conferences realigned, Orono's main rival was Benilde(over the last 10 years), not Mound. Considering rivalries usually go beyond one sport, Orono has dominated Mound in every sport except gymnastics(congrats!), while the competition with Benilde was always exciting.
In the last ten years Orono players viewed Mound as just another game (there were a few years where the games usually resulted in running time), while the same cannot be said for Mound. Until this year I guess, because Orono is way down(first losing season in a while).

Secondly, WHO ARE YOU? You act like you never every aspect of this Mound team. "Their D/goaltending isn't Tourney worthy" - haha, ok. We'll just beat the other team in goals if that's the case although I'm more than confident Nelson can keep the biscuit out.
Last and not least, Mound beat Orono 7-6, there was no 9 goals on the box score. Man up and accept defeat.

Yea, that's one of the best comebacks ever!Get Some wrote:Orono will get their golf clubs ready and will probably employ the mound players as caddy's at many of the local country clubs.
Mound won so lets move on to when Mound plays Breck Tuesday night. I(a Mound fan) personally invite you to come and watch us. It's bound to be a good game.

At the game on Thursday they made a sign that said, "We didn't think Mound had the money to buy REFS" - We gave them a standing ovation for that one.statehockey33 wrote:i agree i think orono is a bunch of rich boys that can't handle gettin defeated by a team that is better then them but im also sayin mound better bring a better game against breck there just a little better then orono

I don't see why everyone thinks mound is so much better than orono. Both goalies were sieves. Look at the winning goal. Kind of a crap goal. Plus like it or not the refs definately had a bigger effect on the outcome of the game than they should have. The called off goals happened and the game is over but if one of the 3 goes the other way then mound is done for the season. Mound won and had an impressive last 5 minutes in the third, but squeeking by a below .500 Orono team is proof the white hawks won't go to the tourney.
Oh yeah, Reidy, your fans had no effect on the outcome of the game. Snipezilla??? Awesome, I guess. Must be a Mound thing

First off, anyone in their right mind knows it doesn't matter if one team is ranked 3rd in state and the other is ranked 20th - school rivalry games ALWAYS are heated battles and come down to the wire.BranchesMagnum wrote:I don't see why everyone thinks mound is so much better than orono. Secondly, how can you judge the outcome of the game if Orono was allowed any of those 3 clear non-goals? Do you know Mound wouldn't put the heat on earlier? No, you don't...so stop assuming.
Last and not least, Mound is better than Orono - that's why Mound is still in it and Orono isn't. Period.
I'll see you all Tuesday at Parade.
Note: We did have an effect. Gabos was yelling atrocious remarks our way when we were calling him a PeeWee and such. We got inside that kids head. You must have been to busy watching Mound beat Orono to focus on what was going on in the stands.
