How does Jokinen deserve it? He hasn't done anything lately to help his team out. He only works hard when he gets the puck on his stick. Other wise he just skates half ass.ColdasIce wrote:Brown can go home....to COLORADO Jokinen deserved it palJohnny P wrote:HOW ABOUT DAVID BROWN!!!! 4 goals against the "power house" Greyhounds...Unbelieveable!!! This really was a great hockey game. I thought it was over for both teams multiple times. 3-1 cloquet, then 3-2, then 4-2, then 4-3, 4-4, 5-4! I don't know if this intensity will ever be matched again. The tripping call with 37 seconds left was absolute BS. I can't believe the ref called that. They should've called a checking from behind on cloquet with 2 left if they were gonna call that trip. Brutal call, and everyone knew it. Cloquet fans were even saying it. Nothing anyone can do about it now, but it was still a ridiculous call, and it sucks that the refs had to decide the game.
Now Anoka knows what they have to do, and I think they will do it pretty easily. Anoka was way faster than GR and I don't think Cloquet stands a chance.

OK, I'm starting to get out of the shock phase.
Wow...quite the game. Probably the most intense and fun game I have ever seen, if I look at it objectively.
But wow, does this one hurt. That's quite the way for one's team to lose in one's senior year.
I said beforehand that Cloquet needed to get scoring from people other than Jokinen, and did they ever. David Brown was quite impressive. The first period went entirely according to plan for the Greyhounds...they were in control, flying up and down the ice, and playing solid defense. I have no idea what Esse told Cloquet after that period, but whatever it was, it worked. I can't recall any team scoring four goals against East in one period in the last 4 years. East completely lost control of the game and Cooper was exposed pretty badly. They came back out flying in the third, and just when it felt like they'd escape...
A lot will probably be said about the last penalty on East. I had a pretty good view of it and I'd call it borderline at best...the 2 players were just locked up. I personally don't think referees should be deciding games like that, but that's just me, and championship teams find ways to kill penalties like that (or don't allow the other team 5 other goals in the first place).
Congratulations to Cloquet, I guess.

I did not see the game so I don't really know what was going on at ice level but it is possible that when you get someone on any team that is a scoring threat (like Jokinen) and if that player receives extra attention from the opponent (ie., double team) it should open up some avenues for other players. No one should doubt that CEC has some quality players that do not get the attention they deserve. Austin Hatch, Jake Rychlak, and David Brown to name a few on this team. Just try to remember that hockey is a team game and good teams have several good players whether they get the media attention or not. I have seen Jokinen play when he appears to be a deadly assassin on ice and I have seen him play when it is not so much. I try to remind myself that he is just a kid. Let's see what happens in the next four years or so as he or any of the rest of the kids mature and continue to develop. Anyway we all know that in big games it often comes down to the bounce of the puck. Hats off to CEC! No one should doubt that East is a top notch hockey program. They prove themselves year in and year out. They play a tough schedule and they are very good! That is why it is so much fun to play them, play with them, and if you get the bounce, beat them. Now as the north always does, let's get behind our last remaining northern 7AA team!! Go Jacks!!!

I agree. I think this season Brown was shadowed and not as recognized.. However, this shouldn't have been the case David is an all around good player.. Jokinen didn't look like he had his best game tonight. But hopefully they'll all step up for anoka.

You've got to hand it to Cloquet they played one hell of a game against East. many people, including myself, were expecting anything like what happened today. I personally thought Cloquet's only change was to turn it into a dogfight and win a game 1-0 or 2-1 against the mighty Hounds, but we all saw that that wasn't the case today. What an atmosphere, what a game, what a finish, and David Brown. Wow. Good player, even better kid. Congrats to him on a day he'll never forget.
The real question is if they will be able to get as ready for Anoka after Anoka throttled Rapids today and put them into running time by the third.
Anoka is hot right now and Cloquet is going to be in for a long and hard battle if they want to take this one....

Lucky Bounces here and there????????HoundHockeyForever wrote:Nah, I still think East was the best team in section 7AA. Anoka is a very good team, and I think they will beat Cloquet. Cloquet just seems to play very well against East every time, and get a few bounces here and there. I just would like to see Cloquet lose, thats all.
Just my opinion but i really don't think that Brown's three goals from the point that all went top shelf could be considered lucky bounces.
Gotta hand it to Cloquet for never giving up in this one. 5-4 with five minutes left and they really turned up their game. Congrats to the Lumberjacks.
And David Brown, awesome game by the young man. Four goals and an assist. Surely, the game of his life. Congrats to Mr. Brown.
As for the Section title game. I don't think Anoka's pounding of Rapids means too much. After they went down 3-0, Rapids clearly threw in the towel. I think it will be a close one.
This was Easily the best High School game I have seen, and I have seen my fair share. Congrats again to the Lumberjacks

By lucky bounces I meant the penalty called with 37 seconds left thet enabled brown to score the last goal.
I also don't think GR threw in the towel, Anoka just kept pushing. Anoka was clearly the better team, considering they scored 3 goals in the 3rd period when they were on the penalty kill for nearly half of the period.

Ok understand ya now. But hey a penalty is a penalty. Anoka was the better team I agree but I feel like GR definitely gave up in the 3rd. but lets keep this thread on topic. Anoka and GR can be discussed in their own thread
