not to mention going into the third period ahead of burnsville, but late penalties killed them.
lakeville south should beat north in the final on saturday. south will give 1aa the best chance of winning a game at state, maybe not the first one but the second game they will give whoever they play a run for their money.
Especially with a hot goalie, one of the best in the state (yumusaklar)

The Lakeville schools should set something up like Roseau and Moorhead did with their Section Final. If those teams make it to the end, why make them drive to Rochester to play? Even though they are not high on anyones radar, South would be the best rep for 1AA. Their goalie could be this years Kangas and upset someone or stop 60 vs a top team like Roseau.

South is more of a defensive team but lately during the second half of the season they have been putting some goals on the board, averaging 4-5 goals a game. They have no real stand outs but they have kids like Chris Cass, Billy Simon, and Lukas Allen who are all very good with the puck and are good finishers. They have 3 solid lines that all can play and a great goalie in yumusalklar....and, A hockey fan45, your right..it can happen...but will it? judging by the first two meetings...highly doubtful
I havn't seen either teams, but is South a firepower team or more defensive? Or has it been their goalie all along.
Prodigy basically got it right...they have 3 lines that can play...some forwards that can score...and their defense is ok. The strength of the team is goaltender, and they can ride his coattails all the way to the state tourney maybe further!

They forecheck very hard! They will dump and chase and play very physical and try to wear you down. If you arent quick with the puck in your D zone or if you have any indecision they will make you pay. Thats how they score alot from good forechecking. In the D zone one thing I noticed is that they cover the slot very well. Hawk is a great goaltender but they do a nice job of keeping shots to low percentage areas.

thats just funny!
The only reason Id like to see North win is because it would be funny to hear the uproar of disappointment from EVERYBODY.
A hockey Fan45-its good to see your friends with Gumba. Did you like his Dano Jacques vs Owatonna?

I was impressed by how physically strong South is, Charlie Thauwald is a big kid, a DE on Mayo's football team, and he was moving at a good clip and tried to throw some open ice checks on a couple of South kids who were standing still and didn't even buckle their knees.
It's a rivalry game, and people knock Schmitz but his record in these games is awfully good, winning some when he didn't have the better team. South looks to me to be the better team, but the better team doesn't always win. A chip, a chair, and a chance.

it is sad that one of the 6th or 7th place teams from the lake are going to go to state when there were many better teams in the lake and in other conferences that didnt get the oppurtunity because of strength of section..if u ask me its a joke how the sections are set up!! best of luck to the sisters of the poor vs the sisters of the poor
About 6 posters have come on here and said how bad this section is and it's not fair that some team who may be more deserving can't go. It's funny how no one goes into anything related to 7AA and says the same thing. Cloquet finished the season 12-11-2 and 5th out of 8 team in their conference, a conference that isn't as good as the Lake by the way. South finished the year 11-11-3, a whole half game worse than Cloquet. They have 1 common opponent, Minnetonka South lost 6-0, Cloquet lost 4-0.
So just because your Cloquet you get a pass? So they beat Duluth East, East only beat 1AA Mayo 3-2. Those posters better cheer hard for Anoka otherwise they may need to eat some crow.

A sixth place team in the Lake Conference that had 5 elite teams in it. South getting sixth is pretty good and they played very well down the stretch. I assume your upset that South will probably go over teams like Eastview, EP, and Jefferson? And possibly Rosemount and Burnsville?
vs Eastview they tied and lost 3-2
vs EP they lost 2-1 in OT and 2-0
vs Jefferson they tied
vs Rosemount they split
vs Burnsville they lost big twice
Its not like they are that much worse than any of these teams. Burnsville beat them twice because Burnsville's speed helps against South's physical play. With everyone else they played right with them and beat Rosemount. They arent going to get blown out at state and they could ride Hawk to a win. Granted they still have to beat North who everyone is writing off also but this is a rivalry game and this game is going to be a lot closer than the two regular season meetings.

Lakeville South is 10-2-1 in their last 13 in the toughest conference in teh state...with a win over a top 5 team in Rosemount....So all teams that are unable to say that...(which is quite a few still remaining) should also be considered a joke? wow, get a clue

Thanks Goldy. Not to mention Mayo whipping Hibbing 6-1 and they are one game away from the Class A tourney. Is that a free pass too? I mean I-Falls barely beat Albert Lea, Mayo took Albert Lea to OT and then whipped them 4-1. Perhaps South's 4-0 win over Mayo is quite underrated around the state? Granted Mayo did not play well, but they were very limited by South's stellar team defense. Mayo was not firing on all cylinders as I heard they had the flu bug, but they do have some players and the aforementioned Mr. Thauwald was moving and could get nothing going.
Hats off to South. Pay them the respect they deserve.

well said...although, against Burnsville the 2nd time around, South was winning going into the 3rd, and then sat in the penalty box for the 3rd, and ended up losing by 3...you cant sit in the box against Bville.

Yes its quite possible that the 1aa winner could get pounded at state but keep in mind that the kids from Lakeville had nothing to do with the section format. Great teams have been shafted at playoff time for as long as I can remember....anyone remember how good Edina west was when East was dominating in the 70's and 80's. I'm sure they felt the same way. I say hats off to the Lakeville players that chose to stay, several players on south could have joined the ranks of STA or AHA but stayed to play with their friends. Win or lose give both Lakeville teams credit for continuing to compete with the adversity they've faced. Lakeville chose to split while other communities went with "mega schools" ie..eden prairie, anoka, blaine, wayzata and many others. The split ignited a flurry of departures that hasn't slowed...maybe a little success is whats needed to try and keep the talent there.
