Very Nice Pictures -
Maybe it is just me, but I think these games should have been played indoors out of the wind. These games were played outside in these conditions for one major reason - $$$$$$$$ - for TV. I understand at least some of the players on the teams had frostbite after the games. I also understand some of the coaches requested to move the game inside, but Fox reportedly told them they had a contract to play outside.
If these reports are true, the TV decision makers should be ashamed of their greed and disregard for the kids welfare. I think the event should consider setting up an idependent medical group (Not TV and Not Event organizers) to detemine when it is appropriate to say enough is enough and either move it indoors or postpone the event.
The outdoor event is a great idea, but they should learn form this year for future events and have a point where the game goes inside or is postponed for the kids welfare. I do not consider myself a bleeding heart, but there should be a "reasonableness factor" involved where health overules $$$$. If the kids got the money well then let them decide, but they don't and should not.
I guess we all are entitled to an opinion and this is mine....

I was at Baudette that day. It was brutal!
As we were getting ready to leave Roseau that day, we heard an announcement on the radio that the game had been moved to Memorial in Roseau, so we decided not to go. Then a couple of hours later, we heard that it was back at Baudette again. I am not privy to the reasons for the indecision, but I assume pressure from FOX Sports was at least part of the equation.
Even though the conditions were terrible, I had a good time, and am sure that most of those involved have participated in other winter activities under similar conditions. In my opinion, inside would have been a better choice, But outside was OK with me.

In fairness I was not in Baudette that day, but was close enough (within 70 miles) and outside in the wind very briefly to know that it was extremely cold. If there was pressure from Fox, as reported, this is a good reason why there should be an independent group or board with medical knowledge to make the call for an event like this. Frostbite can impact kids for the rest of their lives. In my opinion, playing this game in -45 windchill is an unacceptable decision when kids health is in the balance and $$$$ is in the other.Roseau '71er wrote:I was at Baudette that day. It was brutal!

I do think the event is a fun throwback event and its organizers deserve alot of credit for developing it. Just learn from this year and make better decisions in the future.

Thanks for all of the compliments on the photos...We like them as well. I actually got an e-mail from the Minnesota Wild today and they must have liked them also cause they asked me permission to use one of them in the March-April game programs!!
