first off they have played at least 5 quality opponents, and just because they do not play teams like Roseau or Edina does not mean they arn't good, you'll be eating your words when you see West at the X and winning games at the X.
agreed! :)

As an eagle fan and alumni I would like to see LHS at state but I tend to agree with the previous post that Seniors make the difference. Also goaltending will be a factor and west wins that battle.

West 4 LHS 3. Scrable at the west end at the end of the 3rd but eagles still fall.
Agree, Spratte is good but costs alot of mistakes. Watch the Wylam bros. Technically superior skaters. Nick reportedly watched by several D1 programs.

I would generally agree that seniors do make a difference in big games but they don't make as much of a difference when it's a situation they have never experienced before. They're just as nervous as everyone else and the double edged sword is that it's their last chance to make it to state which can create some extra tension or because it's possibly their last game; they rise to the occassion.

Mankato West relies heavily on their two point leading seniors and if they don't perform, I would have to say, their team loses. I don't think you can rely on the rest of their team to pick up the scoring when the competition is better like it will be on Thursday night.

I could be wrong but I think Lourdes will match up well against Mankato and the more balanced attack on offense will give them the win. I'm going with a 3-2 win for Lourdes. No overtime, just a close finish.

biafp, angus, and ram, after seeing west and lourdes play several times this year, how do you think 1A will do in the state tourney? 2 and out, 1-2, 2-1, or win it all?

That is a dumb question...we all know they troll the forum looking to dump on any team they can. They already gave their uneducated opinions.

It depends on the teams that make it to the tourney I say 2 and out if all the #1 seeds make it but we shall see. (Including Rochester Lourdes)

Word is there will be several sets of prominent eyes viewing this game. This will provide an opportunity for some players to really show what they have. It should be a good one to watch.

what all these guys don't realize is that whatever team, West or Lourdes wins this section, they have a good chance of getting a 1-4 seed in state..

I don't know about that. West has no shot and Lourdes would probably get it for sure if Little Falls was to not make state from section 6. If Lourdes and LF both made it the winner of the Breck/Blake game would have no shot at the 4 seed and the argument would come down to LF, Lourdes, and either St. Cloud Cathedral or Duluth Denfeld.

I'm gonna say no matter who wins, lourdes or west they will get the 4 seed at the state tourney.

They will not give it to West because of one quality win, which will be over Lourdes in the section championship if they win because they haven't beat anyone to this point. If Lourdes makes it along with Little Falls and St. Cloud Cathedral, they will have a tough time making an argument when they are 0-1 against each of those teams head to head which will knock them out of the running and most likely give St. Cloud Cathedral the number 4. Both LF and Cathedral would have to lose for this section to get the 4 seed.

If West wins impressively over Lourdes, that may be enough to get them the 4 seed. Cathedral has a couple hiccups and LF played a very similar schedule to West.

who are these people?

Post by gruntcall »

when reading the posts and reply's in this tread, I have a hard time believing that most of these people have even watched both of these teams play. why do you even chime in? both teams have a chance to win this game, and both teams have a chance to win at state.
to sit there and bash either team shows the ignorance you provide.

The winner of 3A and 2A have zero chance of getting seeded. You can't lose to Owatonna or the Saints and get seeded. Lourdes lost to nearly everyone else still playing so their chance of a seed are also about zero. West could finish the season 25-2, they haven't played anybody but it would be tough to not seed a 25-2 team. Mitch has West as the 4th best A team, so does Lee. West should get a 4 seed after that it's luck of the draw, if they draw 2A or 3A they're in good shape.

breck

Post by goaler »

I don't think 2A is going to be a cakewalk. I saw Breck take apart Mound last night. Blake looked weak, but Breck is young (mostly 10-graders), talented and very fast. A first-rounder between West and Breck would probably be a very fast, wide-open game. I'd like to see that match-up in the Xcel.

West against 3A (if it's New Ulm) would be loaded with implications, too, given the horribly bad blood between Mankato and New Ulm. Everybody, including me, thought West would kill New Ulm last year and they lost. New Ulm even won the brawl outsdie. I don't think it will happen this year, but who knows. And can they keep from trying to kill each other out there?

As you can see, I am assuming West beats Lourdes.
