2/29 9 PM at the Coliseum: Hill Murray vs. White Bear Lake

Post by Mr. McTabish »

In high school hockey's favorite section championship, a classic Hill Murray vs. White Bear Lake will take place at 9PM on Feb. 29th.

So ahh...who do you guys think will win?

There will be a tastey appetizer to this game as well: Rogers/Blaine vs. Centennial/Maple Grove. I however will be looking forward to the dessert.

Hill wins 4-2...if the 1st game is an appetizer wouldnt Hill-WBL be the main course Mr. McTabish? :D
Ben Dover plays BOTH ways.

The main course is the nachos/licorice rope/soda pop I have at some point in the night. Hill Murray/White Bear Lake game is the dessert.

Get it right.

I'll cheer for White Bear Lake in this one. Third attempt in as many years. Is the 3rd time the charm?

While the Roseville vs White Bear Lake game was a much more exciting game to watch tonight, neither team played particularily well. White Bear Lake gave up some horrific turnovers in their own zone to let Roseville score. If White Bear plays that kind of game against Hill-Murray they will get killed. I don't think they will however as they always save their best for Hill. I told ChrisK, I thought I felt a disturbance in the force tonight when Roseville was winning late, but clearly it was just indigestion. I still think Hill will be too much for White Bear and I think they'll win a 4-2 game that will still have some classic moments to it. I don't enjoy them as much as everyone else, but here's to another classic Hill vs WBL game...

High school hockey does not get any better than this. Third times a charm: WB lost to Hill twice this year and this will be there third time playing them and WB lost to Hill the past 2 section championships. I'm hoping that somethings gotta give. The atmosphere on a WB/Hill friday night game, there is no where in the world i would rather be than at this game on friday.

I'll go with a 5-4 finish public on top.

Last win vs. HM in 2005...

Post by Nogoalov »

Maybe WBL can break their 7 losing streak against HM in the 4AA finals. It sure would be sweet for Da Bears.
Nice try Nogoalov

Comments on Phillippi damn near giving one up on a slapper from the red line? Looked to me like he was in his typical big game form!

In all honesty, that's something to take into account it seems to me. At times he looked good - made some nice saves - but at other times he was horrific and a team better than Mounds View (ie: White Bear Lake) would have made him pay quite a few times.

Again, it's hard to get a read on a goalie in a game like that, but to me, nothing he did looked all that confident, and if he's that squirrelly against the Bears, he's going to have a lot of trouble.

And then, if the Bears snap their seven game losing streak to Hill-Murray (which I think they'll do), they can get to work on that other pesky little streak of never having won a first round game at State. Since they would likely go into State as an unseeded team, however, I don't like their chances of winning their first ever Thursday game at State. (Maybe they should go down to Class A, so they could open on a Wednesday)

What more can a fan ask for...somehow another Pioneer/Bear final. Looking forward to heading to the game and experiencing the atmosphere of yet another capacity, intense crowd. As always both teams will give it their all and it will likely result in a close contest. Friday night, I'm going with the three-peat:

Hill has way too much for the Bears this year after they lost Johnson and Hansen before the season.

Before you go on about how great your recruits are, it helps to spell their names right. Its C-E-C-K-A just to let you know. Either way I'll take Hill 5 to 3 with WBL coming racing back to tie it in the 3rd but hill manages to pull it out. CECKA scores 2

Govs, I really think Hill laid back the last two periods. My dad commented the first period looked like a varsity team against a bantam team, and it was ugly. I think Hill could have named the score but didn't keep up the intensity. That doesn't bother me as they coasted to an easy win. I'm guessing you are referring to the puck that shot into the air and he had to glove before it fell in the net? I will say Phillippi made enough saves to never let the game get interesting. That's what I'm looking for Friday, enough saves to never let the game be interesting. Hill needs to come out and take care of business, because we see what can happen when you leave White Bear in the game.

WBL 4 - HM 3

WBL gets outplayed but pulls it off snapping the streak. HM has been scary sometimes this year having a loss to Tartan, tying SSP and having close game with Maht last regular season game. I think WBL will pull off the upset and be back to state praying for round 2 at the X...

Spelt correctly or not, they sure put up a number of ginos against your beloved Mustangs. Anyways, this will be a hard fought game. White Bear needs an early score on Phlip. Correct me if I'm wrong but WBL scored first during the Schwan's Cup this year? It definitely helped them compete with Hill. White Bear needs a solid game of hockey. A strong third period is a must. I can see things falling into place for Owen and the Bears coming off a huge win over the Raiders.

Public schools all day.

Hill should be a 2 goal favorite in this game, they won the previous two matchups this year by three goals apiece. Previous results do not guarantee future success but it will be an upset if White Bear Lake wins.

White Bear's defense will have to be a lot tighter than they were over the holidays, they gifted and re-gifted away many good chances to the Pioneers. They'll need to take the body and jam the lanes to keep Hill's passes from clicking like they did earlier this year. And they'll need a stellar game from Collette.

As much as Sparlimb would like a nice calming Hill blowout, I'd like to see a nailbiter with the Bears finally pulling one out in OT.

privates up by 2.
suffering for the bears is enjoyment for me.
although a pioneer victory is not very pleasing
must be the best rivalry in the state, especially in late february.

They need to cancel out all of the athletes they're recruiting with some nerds.
