Participants in both AA & A Tournaments

Post by Doc Holliday »

After the Edina-Burnsville game concluded last night, I got to thinking: How many players have played in both the AA & A tournaments? Or Tier I & II?

My short list that I came up with:

Mark Birmingham
Class A: Mpls. Edison, 1994
Class AA: Blaine, 1996

Brandon Sampair
Class A: Mahtomedi, 1994
Class AA: Hill-Murray 1997

Brian Ginkel
Class A: Blake, 1995
Class AA: Edina, 1998

Anders Lee
Class A: St. Thomas Academy, 2006 & 2007
Class AA: Edina 2008

Are there any others? As for players that have played on two different teams in the tournament, the only other that came to mind was Brandon Steege for Burnsville in 1990 & Richfield in 1991.

And Lee is in a unique opportunity to be the first player to win an A & AA title, at least from my research.

I believe Kevin Huck played in both as well. Once with Rochester Lourdes (2001) and then with Holy Angels (2002 and 2003). 3 years in the tournament is pretty impressive with one team, let alone 2 in my opinion. Very interesting fact about Anders Lee too, it would be historic no doubt.

If my research is correct, this would be Lee's fourth tourny, as he was on the 2005 team with J. Schroeder.

You are right, it would be Lee's 4th tourney. That's impressive, it's possible he could get to 5 as well. I also noticed that Furne has done it on 2 different teams, but both in Class AA. One as a freshman at Tartan and then one as a junior at Hill-Murray and could pick up his 3rd this year as well. Interesting stuff.
