Yup, getting to the section finals after beating Albert Lea 5-2 really shows how overrated west is.. like i said before all you "west-haters" are going to be eating your words tommorrow night :)

Oh yes, West is horrible. They don't deserve anything. I am sure Lourdes will rip them 8-3 or something like that.

I doubt that will happen. Bruggeman is been solid through playoffs. This game will end up being 1-0 or 2-1. The only way it would be a blow out is if scudamore doesn't come to play. Although, I would love to see both teams put up lots of goals, say 6-5?

Lourdes , hopefully

I've seen both of these teams up close.
Solid clubs.
Either would do fine representing 1A at state.
West has had a nice story. Took a beating for years as freshmen and sophs, hung together and are enjoying a great year.
I think it ends here.
Lourdes is a hockey school. It looks at hockey differently than the other teams in this section. They HAVE to field a team every year that can compete, and they do it however they can. That attitude will carry them late in this game.
I'm in the minority on this, but at this time of year, I think you can count on talented Juniors more than you can on Seniors. Seniors have a tendency to overthink and put too much emotion into their decisions. They feel their career clock ticking away and it often screws them up.
Juniors are having the time of their life, and all they want to do is keep playing. They don't feel as much pressure as Seniors do. (Again, just my opinion).
I'm not knocking West. They are incredibly talented, but there are some holes in that team that are often covered up by the intense offensive pressure they put on their opponents. Lourdes won't buckle to that like so many other teams have. Their strong forwards will find those holes and exploit them.
The only thing stopping me from guaranteeing a Lourdes win is the goalie. I think it all revolves around Scudamore. If he has a good night, so will Lourdes. If it becomes a track meet, West will win.
Goaler must have been there last year like I was when NU completely baffled a then-rolling Mankato West in the semis. No one saw that coming. All it took was a solid goalie and playoff pressure. West folded that night like a cheap suit. They are obviously beyond that this year, with a big win over a really solid AL club. All the way beyond it? I don't know about that.
I see Lourdes winning 6-4 with an EN'er.
But I also see the 1A entrant, even if it is West, winning at least two games at the X. That's the important thing.

if u are going to say juniors play better than seniors and than use the west example from last year u are contradicting yourself since everyone knows west was lead by juniors last year

Good catch, TG099.
Guess maybe that was the exception to my rule.
Sure seems to me like a lot of the teams we've seen lately in the state tourney get younger and younger.

My prediction is that you will not see a Litchfield/Lieverman show unless Lourdes gets caught on their heals. They will obviously play a huge factor in the game but I think Lourdes will shadow them the whole game.
I think if the 2nd and 3rd line click tonight they will pepper Scudamore with shots, rebounds, and goals. TB builds a brick wall tonight and only lets one in when he comes out to challenge a break-away (but then he shakes it off, grabs his water bottle, and puts on a magnificent show taking a drink) shutting Lourdes out the rest of the game. Only 8 more hours !!!!

and the winner is . . .

Who wins? For starters, THE FANS. This should be one of the great SoMinn hockey games in a long time. Get there early.

Lourdes - A deserving #1 seed. Class all around. Tougher schedule, deep roster, and basically playing a home game in the section finals. Has already beaten West once this season. Held New Prague to only 18 shots in the semis.

West - One of the most talked about teams in Class A this year. With an outstanding top line, seniors galore, and top ten goaltending, West will be bringing a few fans of its own tonight, I'll bet. Beat Albert Lea convincingly in the semis.

Good luck to both teams. I'll say West 4, Lourdes 3

I think this is going to be one of the best games to ever be played in Southern Minnesota.

It will come down to one big factor the goalies who ever comes to play out of these two goalies will win.

I think both goalies have the big game ability it will be a great game.

west 4 Lhs 3

Being a 1A virgin and attending the game tonight, what should I watch for? Who should I watch for? Can I get a quick scouting report on the game?

I 'd love to see West at the X. And I think they can definitely do it. However, two things have to change from their first meeting. Goalie Brueggeman has to play better. I wasn't impressed in the first meeting.
Also, Leiverman can't expect to carry the puck in deep all by himself. Too many times he ended up behind the play coming back the other way. Also, It might help the D out a bit if he backchecked with as much intensity as he cherrypicked.

As for West #11 and #14 can run the table pretty well. #7 for West is small but he can really move, he has some good quick moves. Those are the 3 big guns for West. The Goalie is really sweet, I love to watch him play. #20 at D is solid he does his job pretty well about every time. #2 has a cannon from the point, and #3 is really solid and he can place his shot pretty well. There is a little about West. I don't know much about Lourdes though.

Empire, welcome to 1A section final, should be a packed house and hoping for a good game. Lourdes 1st line Peterson Voigt Funk #8,#14,#12
Senior Campbell #19,and Chezzy(Chezick #7 along with Hexum.)
Gudgell Bestgen also strong.
D- Spratte, both Wylams Vessel. Pretty balanced team with no superstar.
Mankato. Leivermann and Litchfield is all I hear about and sorry dont have much more info on them, someone may be able to add on.
Bruggemann soild.
I expect it to be a hard fought fast pace game. No predictions just hoping for a good game from both teams and it will be what it will be, sadly someone has to lose.

For West: Watch for #14 and #11 (Litch and Liev) to make connections and plays to each other all night. Whoever their linemate is tonight will undoubtedly see the puck alot also if Lourdes shadows #14 and #11. Speed is West's strength and with three lines, they usually outlast their opponents and make big plays later in the game. I don't see Lourdes being a team they will score on within 3 min, but all's it takes is a puck and some legs to beat the D. Second line is great at complementing the 1st line. They are basically a 1B line. The third line has the same amount of speed with a little less size. All of those boys can handle the puck and make plays on anyone. Coach Essay didnt skate the third line for the 1st period against AL and I would anticipate they won't see many shifts in the 1st period of this game. If they do, watch for the third line to play defensively until they control with an opportunity...they'll crash the net hard. Oh yeah, watch Bruggeman in net...he always makes stellar saves and puts on a show. You won't regret coming to this game

Empire. here's a quick report on both teams.

West - can score in bunches. Top line of Litchfield, Leivermann and Deopere - high powered. leivermann good skill and a tireless worker, litchfield more of a finesse player and Deopere just a grinder.
2nd line is a group that can also score, but will play more physical than any of the three lines West will roll. Watch #7, he's a gnat with great hockey sense. 10 and 27 will bang with the best.
Third line just a hard working line that can score some also.

Defensemen are not flashy and rarely give up the odd man rush. they play pretty conservatively and let the forwards create turnovers off the forecheck.
Goaltending has been very good all year. 1.81 GAA and a .930 save%

Lourdes- top line (Voigt, Funk and Peterson) are all juniors and can skate. Probably not as high powered as West' first line, but very dangerous. 2nd line is also good. I like the Campbell kid on that line
3rd line similar to West.

D Spratte #3 is one of the better ones in Section 1A. Good skater who likes to jump into the play. Other D are solid.

Goaltending has not been as consistent all year, but Scudamore canb come up big.

I would look for both teams to try to throw alot of shots on net in hopes of cashing in on some rebounds and dirty goals.

Should be a good one. Hope you enjoy it.
What brings you down to Roch any way.

Having lived in Mankato, I am pretty excited to see them live up to the hype this year. Seems like everyone is against them, though. Is there a reason, or are people just bitter/jealous? I do know their coach is a good guy. I am too far removed from Kato to know any of the kids, though.

Go Scarlets!!
