I was there. pretty even first period for the most part slightly leaning towards Tonka. 2nd period id have to say Tonka took it to BSM pretty good to make it 2-0 going into the third. i figured with 2 D-1 defenseman and one being a Mr Hockey candidate, it was in the bag but BSM had other plans. They came out in the 3rd and Tonka didnt respond. BSM scored 1st shift in the OT and Tonka looked completely shocked as it seemed like their tourney birth was stolen right out of their hands.

Great win for BSM. I have to say that I thought they were done when Tonka went up 2-0. I will have to say that Pauly was going crazy on the BSM bench getting the troops fired up and I am sure the same happened in their locker room after the 2nd period.
I would not put all blame on the Tonka goalie, I don't think his D had their best game either. Best of luck to BSM at state they seem to know how to pull off tough games which will help them at state.

Tonka gave that game away, unfortunately. They proved they were the better team - even while not playing their best game - for two periods but then played not to lose in the 3rd period. Credit to BSM for not quitting and for coming back but the game should never have gone to OT. That's now another very, very good MHS team that didn't make state. '86 and an early '90's team come to mind.
yea this years team is one of the best Tonka teams in a longg timeSlap Shot wrote:Tonka gave that game away, unfortunately. they play a lot better when they are on the offensive rather than sitting on their heals

BSM
Has BSM been rotating goalies this year? The Meyers kid has one quite a few big games for them and I would be surprised if he didn't play the state tournament games with wins over Edina, Shattuck, and Minnetonka already this year.
Who is the second defenseman going Division 1? Where is he going?
I thought Minnetonka was by far the better team, minus goaltending. I as a neutral fan was not impressed with Benilde at all. Not sure if #13, Chris Student, was sick or something but I am glad he is not going to the U of M. I thought he looked extemely lazy. I also noticed BSM looking like a bunch of rich, catholic, preppy boys. I hope #23 gets an earfull from his folks for humiliating himself out at center-ice by pointing and grabbing his mid section.
This was a perfect example of why I will never cheer for private schools.

Ok for one thing do not be going on and calling people you do not know lazy and the reason why Student is not going to the U is because he really wanted to go out East and play Hockey. And trust me on this that not all kids from BSM are a bunch of rich catholic preppy boys we just happen to be a rich school with a lot a rich kids that got to that school. And as for 23 do not mind him he is kind a big goof ball so do not mind what he didTigers33 wrote:Who is the second defenseman going Division 1? Where is he going?

To bad about the #23 thing. He embarassed himself, his team, his school, and hopefully his family. An all around great game that showed whats great about hockey...Tonka clanks a post on a pretty 2 on 1 with about 5 seconds remaing in the second. If that puck goes in its likely over. BSM comes out fired up in the third and Tonka tries to sit on a 2 goal lead. You know what they say about 2 goal leads. The rest is history.

At least the privates don't act like they expect it
I think my favorite part of the game was how quite the fans from tonka became when the reality of their immortality rose up and slapped them in the face. I always get a kick out of the people who just expect to win and find it so unbelievable when they lose. Can you blame them though they had God, I mean Jake on their side.Tigers33 wrote:Who is the second defenseman going Division 1? Where is he going?

Did anyone notice that Gardner was the person who gave up the 3 on 1 that lead to the game winner. He sure does look good on O but gives up a lot on D.
How can you call a team with Steve Zierke rich and preppy. He lives in Brooklyn Center and has been labeled disfunctional for years. But I am sure glad he was playing for the Red Knights because he plays the way the game is meant to be played fast gritty, and with your teammates.
Sure would like to know what type of pleasant language 18 used against 23 to get him to gesture in such a way. I am sure you would have approved of the blue collar language they learn over in humble Minnetonka.
By the way the shots may have been in tonka's favor but my guess is the quality chances would have been neck and neck. So to say tonka was a far better team is pretty foolish. Anyone have a count on quality chances?
Noticed in the earlier posts that the play of BSM netminder Jacob Meyers (10th grader) hasnt been noted yet.
In my opinion, Meyers was key to the BSM victory. Tonka came out in the 1st period and were on a mission. Meyers stood on his head early to keep BSM in the contest. I for one was very impressed. If this kid continues to stay hot, I look for BSM to be playing on Saturday at the X.

Meyers was, without doubt, the reason BSM won. He stood on his head an played a fantstic game. He was the best goaltender of the four I saw last night. Tonka really must be kicking themselves though because BSM played one full period of hockey and it was enough. BSM had 11 shots through 2 periods and was down 2-0. It was a gritty win against a great team.who_b_dat wrote:Noticed in the earlier posts that the play of BSM netminder Jacob Meyers (10th grader) hasnt been noted yet.

Could not agree more (as I stated earlier in this chat). He is a fantastic goalie who has not gotten hardly any press all year. Of all the potential teams remaining, BSM may have the best tender (with the exception of Hill Murry). If he plays his game, BSM will not lose another game.hockeyxprt1 wrote:Jacob Meyers will get the start in net for the Red Knights. The talented sophomore shut down both Edina and Shattuck this season all while flying under the radar. He will get the respect he deserves with a win over Tonka. I'll take BSM 3-1.Lopresti wrote:For BSM, I wouldn't be suprised to see Shibrowski in net.hockeydude42 wrote:Will Buonomo or Kruger play this game?
So midsection-grabbing is indicative of being rich, catholic, and preppy? This is news to me.
Or was it something else the players did that makes you say that? I'm not a fan of private schools, but for the life of me, I can't think of anything that a hockey player might do during a game that would make me think he must be rich and/or catholic and/or preppy.

Before we take away Mike Lee's Vesina trophy, Lets see how Mr. Meyers handles his first capacity crowd at the X, little was mentioned of EP's five goal performance just a game ago.Sparlimb wrote:Meyers was, without doubt, the reason BSM won. Meyers is Pauly's hand picked goalie, and it has been embarrassing to watch how he not allowed Meyers and Shibrowski's to compete on fair basis this year. Come Tourney time I would go with the maturity and poise factor of Shibrowski vs the overly confident Sophy. But its just my two cents. Best of Luck Red Knights.
I think your anti private sentiment has nothing to do with this game. Drive through the school parking lot of BSM, AHA, then go to Edina, Mtka, and Wayzata to find out where the money is at.Tigers33 wrote:Who is the second defenseman going Division 1? Where is he going?

Re: At least the privates don't act like they expect it
If you were at the game you'd have seen which team had the better chances overall. Tonka just never figured out they needed to go high because the BSM keep was great with his pads low. I just don't understand why they went into a prevent mode in the 3rd instead of going for the jugular.he_shoots-he_scores wrote:By the way the shots may have been in tonka's favor but my guess is the quality chances would have been neck and neck.
