Coaches really vote for the refs? I'd be surprised.

from what i heard, after making that last call, the ref skated over to jokinen and said now we're even right? after making that ridiculous call on him a few minutes prior.
you don't call a penalty with 37 seconds left in a semi final affair in front of 5000 people.
You do as long as you would call the same penalty with 14 minutes left in the 3rd game of the season in front of 27 people. If you wouldn't make the call at that point, then you don't call it during the semi-final. If you would, then I think you go ahead.

I full heartedly agree with EREmpireStrikesBack................

In a perfect world, every game should be called the same. I believe the same rule book is used at the beginning of the season as is used at the state tournament. As far as " The refs not being responsible for the outcome of the game by putting their whistles in their pockets!" mentality goes, how could anyone think that that would be a good scenario? Clutching, holding, hooking, tripping, slashing, charging, boarding, interference, and all the rest of the little incidentals all have an effect on the outcome of the game. Let all of that go and I don't want to watch what would ensue. You may as well call the playoffs " Ultimate fighting on skates hockey"! Call the game, every game, the way the rule book is written. I believe that is why someone decided to write some rules.

Ill agree with that too, the refs should call penalties when they see them no matter what the game, however the last penalty was a weak one. If anything I would've taken Boese with the trip, but equalized it by calling Jokinen with the dive.

Same thing last night to in the section 7A final. The games in OT and Marshall scores on a play that was obviously off sides and even then, the goalie had the puck and the ref wasnt in the right position to call it a goal. The whistle should have been blown way before the puck went into the net.

The reffing at the DECC needs to clean up their act and stop deciding games. Just let the kids play.

1. It wasn't off side, one of the players skates was on the other side of the blue line and his body was leaning over the line. 2. They goalie wasn't on the puck it went off of the goalies glove/arm/chest and went in. 3. Stop whining.

You do if you're Butch and his brother and you can see eye-to-eye with the coaches only with a stepladder.

You don't call a ridiculous one in a tie game with 4 minutes left either. East got a gift of a penalty called on jokinen and if their was a penalty at all their it was on east. No wonder jokinen doesnt hustle, the one time he does he gets a penalty called  the 37 seconds one was much more of a penalty that this one. East could have easily won the game 5-4 after this call...

Empire:

I have watched a lot of NHL games this year. They are swallowing the whistle. They are not even calling all the clutching and grabbing anymore. Look at the decrease in the number of penalties called this year compared to last.

The bottomline is that the refs shouldn't decide the game with a power play with a marginal call. Let the kids decide it. If you want it by the book, than call it the same way all game. There would be a lot more crying if all refs called it by the book. Teams would be shorthanded all game.
