A state seeding

Post by DmnHawk5 »

I figured since there are 2 threads for AA, A deserves one too.

What are your predictions? and when do they decide?

based off who i think will be going, the top for weeds will probably go

1. St. Thomas
2. Marshall
3. St. Cloud Cathedral
4. Warroad

im not sure who won between STA and Marshall so i put STa at number 1, but if marshall won head to head, then switch the 1 and 2. if ranking the rest, i would go

5. Mankato West
6. Little Falls
7. Blake
8. New Ulm

Little Falls deserves the #1 seed!

Just thought I'd get it out there before the 3532 Little Falls fans on the bored get to it.

I can't say i'm surprised at this comment being it is from Goldy. It seems there were only a couple guys on any of the LF threads arguing about seeding and I think it was for the fourth seed but Goldy sure does like to jump to conclusions so I must be wrong. With Cathedral's win last night, you have the seeding righ on Elliott.

But then again I might be wrong on 6 of the 8 teams showing up.

True, but as of what we know they are safe picks for now.

Do you really believe that...

Or do you believe this...
dherman8 wrote:When Denfeld beats Cathedral tonight there will be no question. Your best argument was for Breck who is by far a longer shot (and ranked behind LF) to make state than LF so don't tell me anything about assuming LF getting out of their section because they are by far more likely than Breck. None of the big three have to lose for LF to get the four seed. I don't even believe Cathedral has to lose for that to happen but I think they will. Thanks for the backup Angus.

Hmmm, if you compare these teams' head to meetings it gets interesting.

St Thomas has only played Marshall of the other 3 and lost by a lot.
Warroad beat both Marshall and Cathedral.
Marshall beat St Thomas and Cathedral but lost to Warroad.
Cathedral lost to both Marshall and Warroad.

If you use this:
1. Warroad
2. Marshall
3. St Thomas
4. Cathedral

BUT Warroad lost to a Denfeld team that Cathedral beat twice and Marshall beat. It's close, but Marshall wins the head to head with St Thomas in my opinion. So I think it should be:
1. Marshall
2. St Thomas
3. Warroad
4. Cathedral

With Warroad on the road to victory I am thinking it will look something like this:

1. Duluth Marshall
2. STA
3. Warroad
4. Cathedral

Now the part I hate about this is the 5th best team could draw Marshall or STA. If you are going to seed 1-4, you have to seed the whole thing. I wish they would go back to a rotation. I remember playing and being able to look to the section we would be playing if we made it. I was fun rooting for upsets to happen in that section.

Back to the seeds, I hope to see LF and West play Warroad and Cathedral. I want 3A and the private from 2A to get the top 2 seeds.

All I know is that I would not want to face West w/ their hot goalie and the quick striking ability that they have.....the could be dangerous to ANYBODY on any given night. All it takes is a shaky start from the opposing team's goalie and BOOM, they could be up 3-0 early.

Check out their boxscores and you will see they score early in many, many games. With teenagers holding the sticks, gripping them tight, it could get ugly early if L & L get the groove going.

Ben Dover plays BOTH ways.

After looking at this more I realize the 4 seed should go to Mankato West. I know a lot of you will be calling out their weak schedule but we must give them credit for a season with only 2 losses. The 2 losses came to 2 very good hockey teams in Lourdes and Albert Lea. Teams the eventually beat to win the section. Side note here, they should have been the #1 seed in 1A. Also they do not have a bad loss on their schedule. Cathedral lost to Sauk Rapids, Delano and a big loss to St. Cloud Tech. Little Falls lost to Virgina and Sauk Rapids. West lost 2 1 goal games. Yes they have a lighter schedule bbut they kept winning. They deserve the 4 seed and I think they will get it. Either way you look at it, this is a toss up and I just hope two of these three play each other in round 1. Cathedral-LF, LF-West or West-Cathedral would be a great game to watch.

West vs. Little Falls would be a great up and down game to watch. Both teams have 2 very skilled scorers. The goalies would have to be sharp for this not to be a 6-5 game (and yes i know Bruggeman is good, not sure on LF goalie) if this is a game, Im skipping class to watch.

I think the top 3 are pretty obvious, but the fourth seed is up in the air, West, Cathedral and LF all could make arguments, but i'd have to give it to west because they have not had a game this year that you could look down on, a loss to lourdes and AL by 1. Not to mention no one knew who would come out of this section there were 5 teams that had a shot.

I'm very excited for the time when I see that Little Falls did not get a top four seed.
