Cloqueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet Great job boys! That was a great game to watch. Shut down the big horses from Anoka and never really let that club get on track (to dominate). Tip the old cap to coach Esse....well deserved win. Wild77 you deserve it bro'! Great things happen when you least expect it. Nice 2 game run, keep it going. I do believe this win deserves a YES: It Can Happen!!

Re: CEC
Congrats to the Lumberjacks...any team that finds a way to beat Duluth East and Anoka back-to-back has earned their trip to State. Good Luck in St. Paul!northwoods oldtimer wrote:Cloqueeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeet Great job boys! That was a great game to watch. Congratulation, Lumberjacks, on winning a section that a Northern team must win. I think Anoka was surprised at how much jump Cloquet had in their stride. They played with a lot of quickness and spirit, and I think Anoka could not match them throughout the line-up with those attributes.
Jokinen was not so much a force, but he seemed to be in the center of things whenever he was out there. Brown has really stepped up his game. He was always good, but he's playing even better in big games. Boleman had a wonderful game. Cloquet had a fabulous forecheck all game and it showed with the shot totals and in the fact that Anoka had a tough time in their own end, especially in the second period.
I don't think it matters who they play at State. Of course, for us fans of NE MN hockey, we'd love to not have to face Roseau or Edina in the quarters, just to have a better chance at making the semifinals. But this team is coming together very nicely on the offensive side, and they will always be tough defensively. They will be a difficult, random draw for any of the top seeds.
It is not Anoka's fault that they are in 7AA, but Praise Be, a "truer" section 7 team won.

Right on Bader - looks like the "Geek Squad" has egg on his face per usual.BIAFP wrote:EREmpireStrikesBack wrote:Anoka 4

Although I know some cool people from Cloquet (Becca, Billie), gotta go with that hated "A" word, plus I have a strong connection to it at the moment.
And I love to see all the pissed off people that say 7AA is a northern section.

Seems like they are playing great hockey as the underdog. Stay on a roll.ahastars03 wrote:Jacks played well and deserved this win. Hopefully the draw they get at state is in their favor but who ever they get they will have to play the underdog again.
Congrats to Cloquet on a great playoff run and good luck at State!

What are you going to do if Roseau and Cloquet are playing in the first round?HasNoMoves wrote:thank god another northern team rather than a city team lumped into a northern section....if hell freezes over and roseau was to lose a game, i need someone to cheer for!

I thought Anoka looked flat last night. When they played against Rapids they had some jump, and they were creating scoring chances near the net. It seemed like they were trying to dangle around the defense on Cloquet instead of taking it wide. I didn't think they were making good choices either; how many shots did they shoot right into a Cloquet guy?
You have to give credit to Cloquet though, they really pulled it together and knocked off the top 2 teams in the section. David Brown played like a captain, on both ends of the ice. Congrats to the Lumberjacks.

Simple explanation for you . . . Cloquet ain't Rapids. The result weren't no fluke.

I don't think I compared Rapids to Cloquet. I said that Anoka didn't look like they had the same speed as they did on Saturday. Oh, and didn't I give Cloquet credit, too?mnmouth wrote:Lucia4President Posted: Fri Feb 29, 2008 11:35 am Post subject:

What can BROWN do for you well he can score 4g and add 1a in a semi-final game against his arch rival. Brown can add 2 more goals in a section final. His next delevery will be pucks into a back of a net on thursday in the capital city and yet he wear's purple.
Congrat's to David Brown and the Lumbejacks on great section playoffs.
Good luck at state!

gotta love it that hardly ANYBODY gave them a shot! boleman played like a bat outta hell. he showed that he wanted it more than anyone. and who's going to stop Dbo? that was amazing.
its also funny that people say cloquet won't represent well...they did beat east and anoka so it seems that they'd represent better than either of those teams doesn't it?

150% agreed. People saying east should have went because east only stuggles against cloquet. Thats to bad... its kinda sad how people make excuses because they don't want cloquet at state. But, they earned it. Good job to David Brown Adam Boleman and Aaron Baker. Awesome game cloquet.artifactually153 wrote:gotta love it that hardly ANYBODY gave them a shot! boleman played like a bat outta hell. he showed that he wanted it more than anyone. and who's going to stop Dbo? that was amazing.

Anoka vs Cloquet
As I said in a earlier post, congrats to Cloquet on the win, they earned it on the ice.mnmouth wrote:Congratulation, Lumberjacks, on winning a section that a Northern team must win. In response to the bolded quote...it is clearly the fault of the "North" pure and simple that Anoka, Andover, Elk River, CI, FL & SF are in 7AA...its not about numbers (regarding certain schools located in the North)...its about pride...and settling for something that is not "the best" in order to improve they're chances of qualifying for State... because the Duluth Marshall's, Hermantowns, Hibbings, Warroads are content to play for a second rate prize "the Single "a" state title"...rather than joining the DE's, Roseau's & Cloquets's and playing for the "true state title" the AA Championship.
Growing up in Superior...I realized that winning the State title in Wisconsin which Superior HS has done many times...is about the same (difficulty) as qualifying for the State tourney in MN...(later known as the "AA" State Title)...and I'll argue that winning the "A" tourney in MN is about the same...because while its a nice achievement... the difficulty of qualifyng for the "True"State Tourney in MN (which Cloquet did) is what makes it special....and winning it is the ultimate HS achievement.
Good luck to Cloquet at State...Anoka's seaon ends..and life goes on.

PS: Bulldog recruit John O'Neill will be attending this afternoons UMD vs. Fighting Sioux game at the DECC as a guest of the UMD coaches...and he's bringing Berkley Scott with him...they will visit the Bulldog locker room after the game

Gutless northern teams playing Single "a"
