Wow, MoreCowBell and My_Kid certainly have myopic, egotistical views of hockey circles and developmental programs. While this is the first time around for Cyclones at the '97 level, they have a core nucleus to build from including a few '97 kids that skated with the '96 squad in the inaugural season of Cyclone Hockey. Word is out on Cyclone Hockey, and it's a very impressive developmental program.

Yes, the secret to beating the Machine would be to import as many AAA players from outside the state as you can get, ala 96 Blades.a ice person wrote:Everyone does not copy the Machine. It only took half a summer season for most teams to figure out how to beat the Machine system. Good luck to the Cyclones I am sure they will do just fine.
The cyclones never beat the Machine. They won't even play the Machine. If you don't have your team together buy now all that's left are B players.
Maybe they should change their name from the Cyclone to the Clones because they are trying to copy the Machine (both of them were asstants to Bernie) or you could call them the Super Bees because of all the B players. Just a thought.

Iceman23 please before you accuse anyone of copying something, you better do your research. For anyone that wants to know what the Breakfast club is all about visit www.skinnerhockey.com. Here you will find the entire breakfast club program on cd or dvd. What I find interesting about this product is that the author is indeed the originator, not a copy cat himself.
Minnesota Made grosses approximately $150,000 (that is what I have heard) annually off the breakfast club. Here you can buy a $50 cd set. Is it that easy? no, you cannot just watch the cd and become a better stickhandler. You then have to do what is valuable at Minnesoate made - Repeat, repeat, repeat , repeat and do not move forward until the basic skills are understood. This will mean you will have to get in the basement or garage with your kid and help them learn the skills, entertain them, compliment them - whatever it is that will motivate them to continue with the drills on a regular basis. 3 reps for 1 minute each 6 skills per night - 4-5 days per week.
You want to know what Bernie and Minnesota Made is doing that is so fantastic on edge work? Go watch the same Russian team that Bernie watched about 10 years ago in Bloomington at BIG. That is where his edge training came from, I ask you this, can we then jump on Bernie for copying a Russian Peewee coach?
Now what do we have to track that guy down so he can teach our kids, aftr all based on your comments the last thing we want tot do is learn from a copy cat. I think that is perfect. Now these parents can travel to Moscow every morning to teach Johnnie to be a better hockey player.
Iceman get a life and know what you say before you spew it on this website.
People like you are exactly what this sport does not need. Here we have an organization (which I have no relationship to by the way) trying to give more kids an opportunity to develop their hockey skills. Competition in anything is good. Since hockey has become a business this was inevitable!
So I say good luck to any group of people that want to help kids learn the game and I say shut up to people like you that only care about the next clinic at Minnesota Made.

If Cyclone’s “stole” Bernie’s Developmental Plan, I look at that as respect to Bernie and his MM program, which is obviously successful and will continue its success. For those that don’t want to or can’t drive an hour+ south to his program 3-4 days a week, now have a quality alternative.
For Cowbell to say wait until the B Tournaments are over; are you saying a 9-10 year old “B” player is done with his\her hockey Career, and has no chance to develop to an “A” level? Tell that to the players\Parents on the 9 Edina "B" Squirt teams.
Only 20% of last year‘s 96 Cyclone team had prior AAA or Association "A" level Experience before their Development training with Cyclones. They had great success in tournaments and scrimmages.
I’m guessing the Machine\Deuce\Blades Parents are excited to see another Quality Developmental program in the Twin Cities area. It will save them a few $$$ and Trips to Canada or Europe each year to find competition.
Give it time…

You can call yourself anything you want, but when you call yourself a AAA team with B players, you are either kidding yourself or AAA in Minnesota is so watered down, that calling it AAA is meaningless. AAA is meant to be played at a higher level than MN - A level not the inverse. It's just a big money grab, and the naive youth hockey player is the sucker, believing he is something that he is not. 7th place trophies for everyone!FLHRCI_03 wrote:If Cyclone’s “stole” Bernie’s Developmental Plan, I look at that as respect to Bernie and his MM program, which is obviously successful and will continue its success. they must be doing something right, cause people sure are upset about them. Usually that's because things are threatened. Things are changing in summer hockey, it is getting diluted, there are a lot of teams out there.
Why do we care so much where other kids train? Are we afraid people are getting ahead of us? Is that why people that don't train with Mr. McBain are quick to criticize? Why do we all care so much?
You can't stop people from making mistakes, most people learn best through their own experiences. Even the people with good intentions who feel they have to warn people should just relax. We, personally, have made more than a few mistakes that we were warned about a head of time. I always tell my oldest that it's a good thing we have him to experient with, than we know what to do right with the others.
One of my sons played on a team with the boy mentioned above back when they were 7 years old, a nicer, happier kid you could not have found. From what I understand he is still that way. Best wishes in whatever he chooses to do.

Most on these forums are thoughtful observers and occasional posters. The hard work of the moderators is much appreciated.
I need to edit my first part and just leave it (in honor of Molly Shannon) and say - "I know what you did last summer" and leave it at that.

This thread sure digressed quickly. The Cyclones evidently have people's attention (and some people's ire for whatever reason). From what I can gather, they are simply offering another quality developmental option particularly for those on the north side of the metro area who perhaps have decided to retire from the rat race of traveling from one end of town to the other for ice time with teams that have been at it for a while longer. Blades / Machine / Uno / Deuce / Cinco / Whatever - RELAX, enjoy & have fun with whatever team option you decide to throw time and money at. There's a spending opportunity here, there and everywhere for all players @ every level no matter where they are today, the developmental direction they are taking and where it is that they end up a few years down the path.

Right on MoreCowBell, the only good players play for either the Blades or the Machine.
Lamplighter, sorry, it's aweful hard to type sarcasim.........Wow, MoreCowBell and My_Kid certainly have myopic, egotistical views of hockey circles and developmental programs.
I certainly don't agree with methane man that if your not the Machine or the Blades (must think they are the M.I.T and Harvard of AAA) you have no chance to succeed in hockey.
How many kids play B level their first year then A level their 2nd? Do these teams not take you unless it is A and A?
What they fail to realize is the most coaches would be happy taking a group of kids that have some talent but have huge drive and desire over those kids who think that they are the next coming of Sid the Kid.
I for one wish ALL these new teams the best of luck!
I can't believe what I am reading. People actually think Burnie is the first person to think of this stuff. I will be the first to say he is doing a great job and providing a great oppertunity for hockey players. He has a great program and has created a great business plan to go with it. But come on, you accually think all other programs are coping him and the Blades. MoreCowBell you are way off line for your comments.
Hammerit is right on with his comments.
There is a program for everyone. Who are we to say what program is better than another. I say if 15 kids want to skate and play open hockey all summer, great. If the other 15 kids want to skate 80 hours and no games, that is their choice. Others may just want games. Who cares! I could keep going on and on but I know one thing for sure, ALL YOUTH HOCKEY PLAYERS ARE ONE MORE DAY CLOSER TO THE ADULT HOCKEY LEAGUE. Some players will get to the adult league right after HS and some will get there a few years later. I would like to say thank you to every person that has created a program for kids to keep playing hockey.
