Here's the deal, NU people...RoarzgEagles19 wrote:Even if we are considered trash talkers, we ultimately have the right to be, considering we're in the Section Championship game and this is the Section 3A thread. So far, I've seen Marshall fans/players say that we suck, our players are "pussies", "sex blow up toys", and my personal favorite, "gay." Maybe it was some Willmar fans too and some other teams in there, but seriously, I have kept my posts focused on hockey. If New Ulm loses, I'll probably have some excuses, but I won't resort to what a lot of people do.Goos_nu_eagles wrote:I like how they call the Eagles the trashtalkers on here.
There's this thing, it's called respect.
You don't get it from people until you SHOW it.
NU wins poorly, and they lose poorly.
Until that changes, no one in their section will ever want anything good to happen to them.

Great job Litch and congratulations on the trip to state, Hope you can gain 3A a little bit more respect!
NU there's always next year... if I'm not mistaken you return the bulk of your roster minus a couple key players(Stewart and French)

Of course I have a list of a million excuses but I'll restrain as much as I can. First of all, holy Jesus their goalie played an amazing game. I swear about 20 of the NU shots could have easily went in on a lot of other goalies. Credit to that goalie for his great performance. Next, though it is a "lame" excuse, the refereeing was just absolutely sad. They took away a goal and no one can give me an explanation yet (someone should elaborate on why #15 Wade French's goal wasn't a goal). There was at minimum five instances which I thought were quite blatant penalties. Finally, when Litch went up 3-0, New Ulm got frustrated and just took shots. Similar to the Fairmont game, you can't win by just throwing the puck in. Litch came out stronger. Good luck to Litch at State.minnhockey33 wrote:Look how the tables have turned on New Ulm...stars two and three are the refs eh?.....well maybe they just "CAN'T skate with Litchfield"goalieguy_14 wrote:Did anybody else hear anything about Marshall complaining about the refs? The Eagles had apparently cut the lead to 2-1 in the middle of the second period when Wade French scored but the goal was waved off because the whistle blew before the score.
“The ref called us off-side,” Setterholm said. “Were we off-side or not — it would have been a huge goal for us. But you cannot change a ref’s call.”

NU fans just need to stop talking so much, and that says it all. Marshall fans come on here complaining about officials and NU fans are ready to crucify them. Fast forward 6 days and now its NU doing the same thing. NU, I think your arrogance cought up with you last night. I love this quote. "I swear about 20 of the NU shots could have easily went in on a lot of other goalies." What other goalies? Redwood and Fairmont?(only 4 goals against each of these teams!) Are you kidding me? Were you at the game? NU may have had more shots, but Litch had more good scoring opportunities. The Litch goalie played a great game, and he made som great saves, and I mean to take nothing away from him, but that statement about 20 shots is a joke. NU looked to be takin a lot of shots from the point and go lookin for garbage, but good goaltending won't let you score on those shots, and good defense won't let you pick up the trash. Someone needs to credit Litch's D. They played a great game in front of their own net, and never let NU breathe when they tried to get in front. It also looked like NU let up a little bit in the third until that goal gave them a little lift. They really struggled to gain the red line until Litch gave them that odd man rush to score. On an ending note, just want to say, i'm not from Litch, i'm just a huge fan of whoever is playing NU. Great game to both teams and congrats and good luck to Litch. I'll hang up and listen to your respons. thank youRoarzgEagles19 wrote:Of course I have a list of a million excuses but I'll restrain as much as I can. Good stuff behindthemask.
Just like I said yesterday.
No matter what section they are in, everyone else in the section will only be happy if New Ulm DOESN'T move on.
They win poorly and they lose poorly.
Excuses, incidents, complaints all follow every NU loss and even some of their wins. Not sure where that starts or comes from.
It's called respect for your opponents.
And it's too bad, because they have some really solid players who give it their all. Sometimes I just think they miss out on the whole experience that hockey can be. But, that's their choice.
Another solid season for them, that's 2 section finals in a row, no one else can say that.
3A was a lot of fun. Took a lot of crap as we all expected (and got) from the rest of the state. I hope Litch can play hard and hang in the game up there. Don't need a win, just earn some respect boys.
If the state's aim was to create a competitive section, they sure did that. I think you can honestly say at one time or another, 4 or 5 of these teams were the "best team in the section". Some only stayed that way a game or two, some half the year, but it was fun to watch.
I don't see it changing much next year either. Willmar had another solid JV team that should help re-fill their varsity. Hutch and Litch both had some very solid underclassmen. Litchs state trip can only help their program. New Ulm has the Bantam A champs in their district and they will add to a couple really nice returning players for them. Marshall was ridiculously young and got some good experience for their freshmen and sophs this past year. Luverne's best athletes (state football players) return again. Redwood is getting better, Windom will always turn out a competitive squad that works hard.
Should be another fun year next year. that's all you can ask for.
The rest of the state will just keep complaining about us, and we'll just keep plugging away. Such is life. See ya next year.

Just an opinion from watching them forever.
When they win a big game, you'll never hear a kind word about the other team.
When they lose a big game, you'll hear excuses and blame.
Not always, but more often than not.
When they lost earlier this season, they threw their goalie under the bus.
The dust-up at the end of the West/NU game last year was embarassing. They won that huge game and still couldn't avoid problems. Thrashed Marshall in a revenge game this year and couldn't avoid trash-talking in the line.
Don't get angry about it, just making some observations.
I think I've been very complimentary to them in all other areas.
I've always admired their work ethic and the toughness of their game.
But you'll never hear that returned for any of their opponents.
And that's ok, that's the way they are taught. I'm German, too.
But just don't come crying when no one likes you. They are ok with that it seems and don't need to apologize. Just telling you why there's a lot of NU-hatin' going on.
They'll probably all show up early next year, letting us know that their top 10 guys are better, much better, than anyone else's in the section. And that everyone else's suck. I have heard they were very classy last night and took their loss hard, but like men. That's a great start. That's once. Build on it.

Also want to apologize to their head coach.
Thought for awhile the problem started there, but I just read lately where he took his Captain's "C" away from him early in the year for an on-ice incident. (And then also let him earn it back.)
That was probably a hard thing to do to a team leader, but the right thing to do. Mr Setterholm earned my respect on that one. It probably had a lot to do with turning their season around.
They've always been a good program effort-wise. Always just needed a little p.r. work. As I've said all along, hats off to them. They've been in their last 2 section finals. They're doing a lot of things right.

Was it NU that started the fight on the ice? I don't remember, but I heard someone from West was talking trash to an NU player and the NU player responded with a comment or something then West responded to that physically.
Last night was hard to take. It was hard for me to watch, and I did have tears in my eyes. I respected their team + goalie for winning, so I looked up to them a little. Then when they are handing medals out to NU, there is an LDC chant going on in the background. That sucked.

I can't believe that French got the captain's C back (if that is who you are referring to). I don't follow NU as much as I used to but I did get to see them a few games last season and quite a few more this year and in my opinion, there is no way on earth that French should have had the captain's C. He was back to his same old crap at the end of the game last night, tripping players after the game was over, ect.Edger wrote:Also want to apologize to their head coach.

On another note, as bad as the refs were in the Marshall NU game for NU, they were just as bad in the LDC NU game for LDC. It didn't look like a lot of the NU players came to play but #2 and #5 looked good. Just not enough help from others. Making it to state will be a big boost for the LDC hockey program. It would be nice to see them get a win but I just don't think they have the depth in their skaters. Their goalie is good enough but he is going to need a lot of help.

that new ulm goal that got taken away was because an obvious offsides call, and the new ulm players kept playing after the whistle and litch D stopped for the whistle. I dont know how new ulm fans can complain about refs, they missed 2 clear offsides that gave new ulm good chances and called penalties both ways. My suggestion is quit making excuses and get better next year new ulm!!

From watching this section this year I believe it will be a very close run again next year. Marshall had a solid JV with a majority of young players that are decent that should help out. The New Ulm JV has a couple goal scorers that should be a big help to thier team. They also need to find thier goaltender. LDC will come of a great year from thier showing at state. Willmar should have a solid year if they get off to a better start than they did this year. It should be a close one again! I wish the best of luck to LDC at state and I hope they gain some respect for this section.
