bad news orono

Post by bingobango »

as a parent with kids in orono hockey, it has been extremely frustrating to see what has gone on. The dad/coaches board member that got us going into d3 got the boot for shortening the bench. his oldest is outstanding, got a lot of ice. now he backs the coach who gives equality for his younger one who was the last forward on the team who ended up on the first line with the pp and pk stuff (not able to be rostered but in the coaches ear hole). This program is now run by the parents of the kids this coach sat on the bench and challenged to get involved... well, they did all right. now little johnny and his parents have created an environment that each of the three best kids play on separate lines. Balance is great for these people but it ruins good hockey players. interesting enough, these kids are becoming like their parents, very selfish, they never pass! boring hockey. It's quite a shame. In Orono everyone has an answer for the problems, etc. Each coaches board and booster board member has the best interest of their kids in mind first. I have seen this so many times for years. Quite sad. I wish there was something that could be done...

I'll take out all the subjective information between the start and finish of your post.

Bottom line, if the membership of your association feels as you do, get them together at the next board meeting and get something done. Going back and forth on a message board is easy, but doesn't accomplish much.

Gather up the troops, get reinforcements, and start a fire at the right level.

You are perfect. A perfect example of an Orono hockey parent. Since you're apparently close to the team that this younger son plays on and he's not nearly as skilled as your son, let me ask you a question or two to gauge your knowledge of the game. When this so called 'last player on the team' played on the so called 'first line', how'd they do? Did they do well or did they crumble? Was this so called player a detriment to the team? Did he work hard in practice and earn his ice time or was he lazy?

These are rhetorical questions. Who cares. You were likely a basketball player or better yet a wrestler with absolutely zero practical hockey knowledge.

This isn't an issue about some dad/coach so stop swinging your personal ax. Look at the history. Coaches get run out of Orono all the team, at all levels. When I was involved, it happened year after year by various parents.

This is an issue about 3-4 people running this assocation into the ground. All told, our persectives are not that different....little mediocre Johnny and his nothing better to do parents have created this problem.

I done with this issue.
