Mankato West is a great team. I know alot of people don't know much about them so here is a little preview:
They are led by two great scorers in Ricky Litchfield and Corey Leivermann. Litchfield led the state in scoring 33-56-89 and Leivermann wasn't far behind 39-32-71 (Leivermann also missed 4 games)
The kid that Marshall has to look out for is Tyler Bruggeman(goalie)
1.81 GAA .929% SV PCT. In the section final against Rochester Lourdes he faced 41 shots and stopped 40 of them!
Lets hear what Marshall brings to the table

Not saying West will win, but for all you northern and metro hockey heads picking Marshall in an easy one consider some scores.
Mayo 6 Hibbing 1 (West 6 Mayo 1)
Marshall 4 Hibbing 3 OT
Marshall 3 Denfeld 2
Albert Lea 3 Denfeld 2 (West 5 Albert Lea 2)
Lourdes 9 Blake 5 (West 3 Lourdes 1)
Marshall deserved the #1 seed, but I wouldn't be betting the farm on their first game.

Marshall brings experience and depth. They are far more seasoned after playing a seriously much tougher schedule. They have much hunger from two straight Title game losses. A West win would be a major upset, an all-time upset.Black Ice Posted: Sat Mar 01, 2008 12:14 pm Post subject:

No common opp. between these two. I don't put much weight in 3rd party games.
Much tougher schedule for DM
DM has two goalies (one with better stats than the WM and one just below).
DM has two of the top 3 rated blue liners in class A. Two others are top quality.
DM will skate 3 extremely fast lines and the 4th will see ice time.
DM, has seen, division 1 players with a few Mr. Hockey finalists, game in and game out.
DM is healthy and you can spin stats all you want.

Im sure someone like Hafferty could lead the state in scoring if he played in the big nine, that conference is trash this year.LetsPlayHockey wrote:Mankato West is a great team. I know alot of people don't know much about them so here is a little preview:

These kind of arguments are worthless. Mound 3 Lourdes 0. Breck 8 Mound 2. Blake 5 Breck 2. What does that tell you? Nothing! Duluth Marshall has kids with 3 years experience playing in these games. Bruggeman will only be able to flop around making saves for so long and then DM will bury them.Black Ice wrote:Not saying West will win, but for all you northern and metro hockey heads picking Marshall in an easy one consider some scores.

DM 5 West 2
While Leiverman and Litchfield were running up points against Minnehaha Academy, St. Peter, Winona, Waseca, and Fairbault; Duluth Marshall was busy beating St. Thomas Academy, Cloquet, Thief River Falls, Totino, Cretin, and Hermantown.

So you're telling me there's a chance ......
DM is a great program.
They play a great schedule.
They will be hungry and motivated.
All that said, West will give them a game.
A very good game.
Albert Lea deserves a lot of credit for breaking the mold of southern MN teams at the Big Show.
They learned how to compete with anyone up there and they brought it back to the regular season.
West (and many others) have beneffited from that education.
West can skate, they can score, and they can goal-tend.
That will keep you in any game.
They irritate people around here with their "confidence" but that will aid them up there. Come in expecting an easy one, DM, and you will be sorry.

Very well put.DmnHawk5 wrote:DM is a smart team, they are not going to underestimate an opponent at state that has won 25 games. That said, they are going to be coming out to prove a point the moment they set foot on that ice, that they should be the #1 seed and they will play like it. Should be a good game though.
DM 4
West 2
Took you less words to say what I meant.
If I had to bet, my money would be on DM also.
It's probably the worst draw West could have gotten.
(yeah, dumb statement, I know, DM's a bad draw for anyone, just saying that the styles are very similar)
DM is clearly the #1 seed, imo.
