Not only did Edina win the first meeting between these two teams, they did so in convincing fashion. If I remember correctly they buried 3 goals early in the first and then coasted the rest of the game, saving themselves up for a contest with Duluth East the next day. Cloquet has improved since then and is playing with a lot more confidence, but it's not enough to close the gap. If Cloquet had drawn one of the privates I'd have given them a chance, but I doubt they can beat an Edina team that's going to try very hard to prevent a repeat of last year's tourney debacle.

Seriously though Karl, it's hard to believe you're still in high school. You write beautifully, and I couldn't have put this any better myself, and I don't think anyone else can either. I think it might be a while before the first goal is scored for the AA tournament, say a period or so, but once that first one goes in for Edina, the rest will come pretty easily. I'd say 5-2 is a good score, maybe 4-1 or 4-0 too though.karl(east) wrote:Not only did Edina win the first meeting between these two teams, they did so in convincing fashion. I'm pretty surprised that 30% of votes are for the Jacks? I'm taking the Cake Eaters 6-2.HoundHockeyForever wrote:Seriously though Karl, it's hard to believe you're still in high school. I wonder if any of the the Edina fans/players are thinking about the last time that they drew a first round match-up against a section 7 team. Edina will probably win, but this is not a good draw for them imho. Cloquet is one of those teams, much like rapids was last year, that got to states as an underdog and whose momentum makes them dangerous. It should be a great match-up. I'll take Edina in a heart-breaker for the Jacks.

Yep
Yeah, and what I was thinking is last year Edina drew the team nobody wanted to draw and this year they caught a mild break. Edina anihilated them six weeks ago and is poised to do the same.GRIndian97 wrote:I wonder if any of the the Edina fans/players are thinking about the last time that they drew a first round match-up against a section 7 team.
Roseau drew Blaine, and that's a tough assignment. They are so good I suspect the Rams prevail, but c'mon. The teams everyone hoped to get were Lakeville and Cloquet.
Be kind. Rewind.

I don't like the quote. Cloquet is one of those teams, much like rapids was last year, that got to states as an underdog and whose momentum makes them dangerous. But your right, I think I would be more comfortable if Edina was matching up with Benilde at least you know it's a 1-0 or 2-1 game.
The hot goalie thing always seem to muck things up.

Hard work can beat skill anyday, (see also section 7AA semifinals, and section 7AA finals) (see also Edina vs. GR 1st round state tourney 2007). Need I say more. If the Jacks come to town with all their momentum Edina will have big troubles with them. I say 1-2 goal game maybe OT could go either way.

Rapids also had a big time forward last year, and, even though everyone in Cloquet would probably say that Jokenin is that guy, I don't think you can compare the impact of a Patrick White and the impact of a Justin Jokenin. Jokenin is good, but not on White's level. Last year's Rapids was a better team, having come off a deep run in State, so not only did they have the talent advantage, but they had the experience.GRIndian97 wrote:I wonder if any of the the Edina fans/players are thinking about the last time that they drew a first round match-up against a section 7 team. Having said that, Cloquet will battle, grind, and do what they have to do. However, I don't think they can counter Edina's firepower.

hard work
I've been thinking the same thing! Budish, Gleason, Everson, Gaarder, Lee - might as well spell them all L A Z Y !!!gatzke wrote:Hard work can beat skill anyday

Good thing Edina is a hard working, highly skilled team, because it would suck to lose to hard work. Edina will roll in this one, Cloquet is not last years GR team.gatzke wrote:Hard work can beat skill anyday, (see also section 7AA semifinals, and section 7AA finals) (see also Edina vs. GR 1st round state tourney 2007). Hopin to see Cloquet pull of the win, 2 years removed from there, but the whole town is pumped to go, haven't been since 2002, should be a better game than most expect, obviously i want Cloquet to win and David Brown is scary good lately, but Edina is amazingly good, we'll just have to see how the puck bounces...

For them to beat East and then Anoka, something is working and they have to be respected...DadsMoney wrote:Good thing Edina is a hard working, highly skilled team, because it would suck to lose to hard work.
