STATE student sections

Post by komada77 »

Which team at state will have the biggest and best student section? I have to believe it will be either Woodbury because:
1) Enrollment (including freshmen, who go to school at one of the junior highs) is 2475.
2) Woodbury has won 9 in a row and has HUGE student backing because of it.
3) Woodbury is not used to going to state (2nd appearance ever) and students think of it as a really big deal.
4) Student turnout last year was MASSIVE (1200+ out of 1916 in 10-12 at last year's 1st round game).

Or Edina because:
1) Enrollment in grades 9-12 is 2232.
2) This may be the best team Edina has ever had, which is saying a lot.
3) Tradition

By student section I mean the section of fans made up of students who go to the school for which they are cheering. So the whole town of Roseau coming does not count, nor does the whole Lake Confernce (I doubt the whole conference will be backing them up anyways, but maybe).

I'm just bummin Burnsville's fans aren't gonna be there. They are phenomanal after the section finals. But at the tourney gotta be Roseau there spring break is 3 days and those are the three days of state so expect the whole city to make the trip.

Isn't there a set allotment a school gets?

if were talking STUDENT section though, theres no way it can be roseau considering theres less than 500 students in their school. in the woodbury-roseau quarterfinal last year roseau students only took up a lowerdeck end where woodbury took up half the upperdeck. however, considering how far those roseau fans have to travel. . their turnout is pretty amazing!!

Yes there is. I believe its based on the size of the student body (not sure there), so Woodbury was alotted quite a few to begin with. Many students who could not get tickets through the school went to the X early in the morning to get tickets at the ticket booth or bought them from people on the street.

Mankato West will bring a large crowd, last season fans started getting hooked on hockey, basketball used to be the thing but as of last year the hockey fan base grew and now that they are at the state tourney there will be a great turn out by the school fans and just hockey fans from the area.

I just hope the Hill-Murray students don't get stuck in the upper deck THREE years in a row.....though I am sure there are some who will say that this is where they belong.

Anyone know how they decide where to locate the student sections?

Not according to MSHSL. Even if only 10-12 attend the same building, 9th counts toward enrollment I think (I think).

Lower bowl is always given to all HS school officials, hockey coaches (high school & college), old timer/lifetime tourney passes, scouts...
Upper bowl is for a majority of the student sections, although the band, parents, and the balance of lucky students - get a lower bowl section for their game only, then vacate for the next matchup...

It is much better when the student sections are in the lower bowl, but idk if thats possible with a student section like Edina's or other large schools.

Yeah I'm going by MSHSL numbers. Woodbury is only 10-12 as well but i listed their enrollment as 9-12.

did anyone notice the 3 guys from warroads student section last year, with the bleached mullets, and plaid shirts? they were an interesting group. or "Cloudy" the security guard at the X? he was a character too, nice guy though, as long as your not in section 216 or whichever section is notorious for getting riled up.

I think it does count...or it should. High school hockey is a source of community pride and it has been for years. I see no reason why a whole community shouldn't count. Cloquet. They'll bring it. Warroad. Same thing.

Many communities consist of former students and alum, and I think that counts. It may not be TRUE student sections, but time and time again, you see it. Whole communities that bring that spirit. You even see it in sectional games.

Student Section

Post by bobthespud »

All the years that Moorhead made it to the X...our school was given a bunch of tickets in the Lower Bowl, and a bunch in the upper deck. If you paid the "Student Price" you got a ticket upstairs. If you paid the "Adult Price" you got a ticket downstairs. Students got smart and bought the adult tickets.

I have seen this happen differently for different teams...I wonder if the school's AD is in charge of how the student/adult sections are distributed.

At Hill we are told every year that all the AD's got together and decided that since school's aren't given enough tickets in the lower bowl for their students that the parents and alumni will get those seats and the student section will be upstairs. After the Minnetonka game 2 years ago, we just started sitting downstairs and have yet to be sent back. If you're thinking of doing this NEVER go to the upper deck where your seat is because they usually won't let you back downstairs.
