Please stay on topic.

come on people
I'm sorry this topic on here may be long done, but I just have to comment on a few things. First, I don't think it is fair to say that certain teams do not belong at region or state tournaments. Como and the other teams that did not match up so well against the teams from district 6 belonged there because they finished high enough in their district playoffs to qualify. If they play by the rules they belong, don't belittle their achievements. Not every team has the same expectations for their year. Programs like Como are trying to survive, not win state tournaments. I bet dispite the scores those kids loved the chance to play against the number 1 team in the state. Would they get that chance if they didn't earn their way there? I doubt EP is going to be putting them on their schedule anytime soon. Maybe, just maybe making it to the region tournament for Como is like making it to the state tournament for White Bear Lake. Which brings me to my next point, it is in poor taste to say they are a "bad" team. They aren't EP but come on who thought they would be. It is pretty disrespectful to keep talking about how all these teams are so aweful. It's just poor taste.
I do think it was poor of EP to continue to run up the score. You can use any excuse you want to justify it, we've all heard them. "Well I don't want us to get into a scoring slump" or "We need the momentum". Color it any way you want, it was bad form. I personally hope EP's Karma reflects that in the next couple weeks.
I applaud you boys for getting in the ring with the champ and giving it your best. You can rip me all you want, but it was unnecessary.

To me it's not that they don't belong or have the right to play. I don't think it's right that one of the the weakest Districts gets to send half of it's teams to Regions. 3 out of 6 teams in the D1 playoffs went to regionals, 2 out of 17 teams from D8 got to go. The same goes for D2 strong district but only has 8 associations in it D8 has 17 and D10 has 19. Does that make any sense?

EP vs Como
I had a chance to go watch the games in Albert Lea. I also know the coaching staff of Como bantam "A". I talked with them after the game and they said they did not feel that EP was running the score up and have no hard feelings toward EP at all. They said EP was just that much better. Also it is my understanding that for the regional tourney's the extra slot of the third team rotates. I have coached at Como in the past at the bantam B level. The problems Como faces every year
1. They lose about 7 players a year to High schools (Como, Cretin, St.Bernard, Roseville, St.Agnes, Concordia) with the limited numbers of 30-45 players a year trying out for both traveling teams it really hurts at the end of the day when High schools take half of your "A" bantams then the A's take half of the bantam B's then the bantam B's have kids that should play at a C level. These kids do not learn and can not keep up with B's so as second years they are behind and frustrated.
2. In District 1 many of the players are from lower income families and have a tuff time affording even the right size equipment and can not afford to skate during the spring and summer. Which also makes it tuff to compete at a higher level.
The kids have fun making it out of there districts and going to regionals. I agree there are many teams across the state that are better than all the teams out of district one. But at the end of the day you have to win out of your district.
The kids from Como had a great time and there season went a few weeks longer.

I was in Albert Lea also, Eden Prairie has an excellent team. They did not run up the score on any of the teams they faced. They beat Fairbault 7 to 0, Johnson 11 to 0, and Como 19 to 1. The only thing I witnessed were the comments being made by some very high and mighty Eden Praire parents about how did these teams get here it is not fair to all the good teams sitting at home. I have been here at Johnson for about 35 years and there was a time the score was the other way around and I never heard any of our parents make comments like the Parents of EP were making. All I can say is Good Luck to the EP players you guys have a excellent team and get that championship. Maybe the players can teach their parents something about class!!!!
Pool play
There were other games that also should not have been played this past weekend because of the silly format....Many people wrote in to the state board last year requesting a change back to double elim format with many good reasons why. That input was blown off. I heard thru the grapevine that the rational was: not enough time in three days to play double elim. That's baloney.
