What West needs to do is play solid D and create the odd man rushes that they have lived off of this year. Marshall has a talented D corp that like to join the rush from the sounds of it. West needs to capitilize in the transition game. I expect a pretty close game.mnmouth wrote:7A22A

This will be the best game of the first two Class A sessions.
WEST: Nobodys giving you a shot, no one believes in you other than your fans and you yourselves. Bring it to the X, leave it all on the ice, and just remember, you have the chance to prove thousands wrong on television at the big dance. Do it. Go to the X and win. "Hey, I made it...I'm the world's greatest.."
If either of these teams are not motivated by now, they have problem. Too much of this jargon is going on and each side will play hard. Probably not going out on a limb in saying this will be closer than the second game.
This game will probably be closer than the Litchfield-Warroad contest, but it may not be and if it isn't you can bet the farm that it's Marshall that administers the butt-kicking. West has not seen a forecheck like Marshall will bring from all three of its lines all year. They have not seen a team bring sustained pressure from all over the ice by talented players who have learned how to bring sustained pressure by playing a host of superior teams. Yes, West has some dangerous players. Marshall has a buttload of dangerous players, who are seriously battle-tested. That does matter. What does West bring in comparison?

Actually, if my memory is right, they've always been the "Hilltoppers". Duluth Marshall USED to be Duluth Cathedral until 1986, when the Catholic Diocese sold it into the new privately run firm. But Cathedral was a dynasty in it's own right all thru the late 60's and early 70's. The only reason most people younger than 25 or not from the Northland have never heard of them, is that they played in the private Minnesota State Tournament until 75 I believe. By then, the dynasty had worn out and they never made it to the MN State high school hockey tournament under the name Cathedral. After 1987, DM went through some restructuring - some REAL rebuilding. There was a time when they were quite literally the worst team in the state. When I played, I clearly remember beating them 21-0...with our third line. It was really that bad. But they went thru their changes and have bounced back and are now back in the big dance. Quite the remarkable turnaround, and I think Flareghty has got the right approach and is on the right track.cititeshockey wrote:reggiedunlop218 wrote:they need a intimidating name liek the "Hilltoppers" or "Toppers"
the name comes from the historical backround of the school... the school name changed when they moved from downtown duluth to the top of the hill so they changed their name to hilltopper because of the placement of the school and how it was at the top of the hill while all the other duluth schools were lower than them.
that is what i think it means but go to urban dictionary and see their definition it is pretty funny...
Duluth East's coach, Mike Randolph, among many, many others, was a Duluth Cathedral standout player.
Some some historical intruige. I hope I got most of my facts right...this was all from memory.

Only an ignorant Marshall fan is going to be on here completely bashing West and saying they are going to win 6-0. But with the experience DM has, the depth at defense, the speed, and the fact that they want it worse this year than ever before it is going to be hard for West to pull it off. Also if anyone thinks that Litchfield and Leivermann are going to have there was way with Marshall's D are sadly mistaken. DM can shut down, period. But this is going to be a close hard fought game and i can guarantee neither team is taking the other lightly, they both want it too bad for that.

Marshall v West
As Donny Shulzhoffer from Flin Flon, Manitoba said in Mystery Alaska, "Now, send the kids out of the room . . ."
Marshall is a legitimate favorite in this game. Section 7A was just plain tougher, overall, than 1A. Marshall also beat STA. Still, West is bringing its best offense ever - and the matchup with the Hilltoppers D is going to be awesome. If West gets the kind of goaltending it got in the section final, they could win it. Both teams have a ton of seniors.
First game of the tournament. The top high school sporting event in the nation. Might be a fun game to watch.

Actually I think West will thrive off of this. They are an extremely confident group, maybe even considered cocky, they love the attention. The more screaming fans and TV the better for these kids. Im not a West fan, I was hoping they would lose in sections. But the fact that they made it here is not by accident. Everyone loves Litchfield and Lievermann but the thing that is being overlooked a lot is Bruggeman. I think he is the key to this game. He will need to play very well and stand on his head at times for West to pull it off, but he is used to that. I wouldnt be surprised if West won this won or got blown out. Go West.BIAFP wrote:The West players will surely wet themselves in front of 1500 screaming fans and daytime TV.. This one will be over quickly

If DM gets 41 shots off then they will score more then once guaranteed.OU812 wrote:As Donny Shulzhoffer from Flin Flon, Manitoba said in Mystery Alaska, "Now, send the kids out of the room . . ."

Well if any defense allows 41 shots on net in a section finnal they cant be that strong. Plus i am assuming that all the shots where not from the blue line and DM offense will eat up a 41 shot oppritunity against a D that obviously can't get it out of thier zone.
