How to beat Edina
1. watch out for gleasons speed.
2. work hard for three periods
3. the biggest one of all close the gaps! these guys can shoot very hard. you have to get in on them quick to prevent the shots. shots that wouldnt be a problem against most teams but are with this team. a harmless wrister from the high slot isnt a problem but it is when its 75mph. so the answer to edina meet them at the blue line force them to score with solid plays not one man rushes.

good point
Watchdog, teams often look unbeatable until they get beat. While Edina was impressive tonight, a team that can close the gaps like you mention has a chance to slow them down. Today they were able to break out of their zone with a ton of long passes.
Too fast for Cloquet, but many teams this season matched up better against Edina.

Be kind. Rewind.

Edina
They have great size and for as big as they are they can move however they tried alot of long passes out of there zone, better teams will cut those passes out and maybe turn them into scoreing chances. Also you need to get some in front of there goalie, his is solid when he gets to see the puck, I dont forsee him giveing up a weak goal so make sure he cant see. Biggest of all make them move, they rotate 2 lines for the most part and if you can wear them down the chances will come. I think that is going to be there down fall in this tourney, they need to get quality time from that third line to give alittle more rest to those studs on the first

Don't put the cart before the horse......Edina needs to get past a BSM team which has already beaten them this year.cjp8816 wrote:Can Edina beat Roseau is the question, and if so will they have the legs? I think not.

If you are a team that can't match them with speed, then this is what i believe would work best.....
You have to slow down the pace of the game as much as possible. A great way of doing this is every time you are in your own end and have no way of getting the puck out cleanly, you simply ice. This will create whistles and take away the pace of the game. Have the goalie cover the puck as much as possible also. Basically, just try to force as many whistles as you can

I can see your point, but if you do something like this, they will never have the need to use their 3rd line in order to rest the top two. Those top 2 lines are nasty!formerallstar wrote:If you are a team that can't match them with speed, then this is what i believe would work best.....

I agree with you some what. But these lines rely on their flow play and stuff like that. At least try, i've seen it done before. Also you gotta play physical and this doesn't mean you alway have to try to throw huge hits everytime. Just get in their way and disrupt the flowThe Huge Hook wrote:I can see your point, but if you do something like this, they will never have the need to use their 3rd line in order to rest the top two. Don't want this to devolve into another Edina vs. Roseau thread so this will be the last time I bring up Roseau (the only reason I'm even bringing their name into it is my loc.).
The way a hypothetical team (a.k.a BSM, HM, Blaine, or Roseau) can beat Edina.
1) Play physical. Edina likes to push their size around in front of the net and in the corners. Push back.
2) Clog lanes. Sticks in lanes cause they do like to get fancy with it and a good tape to tape team.
3) Have the legs. I've seen a lot of foot races in Edina games due to 2). There's a couple teams in the hunt that I believe have the speed to exploit.
4)Forecheck. From the games I've seen (which isn't all) Edina's biggest weapon is creating scoring chances on transition.
5)Put a hat on them. 70% of the points from Edina come from 3 players. Put a hat on them and make Edina proof their depth.
6)Exploit their average defense in their own zone. Their only true weakness that I've seen. A team that can cycle the puck well can have success against this team.
Flame on

I can agree with this.......I noticed that their defense really started to "run around" when a forecheck was applied and it made me nervous

1. Convince Budish the game is at the Target Center
2. Put Exlax in Everson's water bottle
3. Make Lee play with a right handed stick
4. Crazy glue Caschetta's hands together
5. Make Gleason wear a 20lb weight vest to slow down the rush
This should work

Almost........first you better convince Buddish that the game is a lot further away than Minneapolis, you don't want to give him time to get there once he finds out he's at the wrong place, better send him to...IDK Sweden...
Exlax may just make Everson faster so I don't know if I'd go that route, maybe try ambian or something, remember you're trying to slow him down.
Better glue Caschetta's legs together too, and try to hide his cup on him, just to be safe.
As far as Gleason goes, 20 lbs wouldn't slow that kid down nearly enough, you might want to try and convince him that No Dak is looking for him to play tomorrow night.
Those are the guys, I know this won't sit well with some, but I don't think it matters what you do with Lee, he doesn't impress me that much, but that is just me, everyone likes and dislikes different things. I'm not going to cut him down on here cause he's just a kid, but IMO Lee is the least of Benilde's problems. But I hope they don't shut them down cause I want to see a Roseau vs. Edina final, that would be the greatest Championship game matchup out of all the possible senario's...IMO
