I love how one of the commentators was saying that Ness was the team. I think Ness is outstanding, but all together, there are MANY great players...look at Landman

A little humility right here wouldn't hurt. I'm celebrating with you, but I watched as people were stumbling over each other to buy our green Roseau caps in 78 after the quarter finals only to have Edina send us into the 3rd place game the next night. Even Neal and Aaron Broten and Butsy Erickson weren't enough that year.

[quote="Govs93" Blaine isn't the elite of the elite in the state, but they're damn good.[/quote]
Disagree...weak goaltending, no wins against top ten teams, swept in conference play by champlin park along with a loss to andover. Not much to write about on d but did have a few skilled forwards.
A good win against the cougars in the section final but other than that only had to play coon rapids and rogers/zimmerman in sections.
They lose a game for every two they win against some decent competition. damn good? not in my book.

It was unfortunate to see the floodgates open so quickly on the bengals. Some tough goals for Harper to give up early on the tip and then a couple in which he simply appeared to be heavily screened. Blaine doesn't have the depth of talent that Roseau has but their first line has been very impressive and they did put a lot of pressure on Lee, it was just too little too late.

Brought it the first half then kind of coasted. Would have loved to see Levi Nelson play the third. Kids a senior, throw him a bone. Can't wait for the Hill game tomorrow night! Ness and Knock a moose goals really stood out. Ness, from the blue line pinch, to open net by the end of the play...ridiculous. Knock a moose, you're going to give me that? Alright...GOAL

Knock's goal had to hit a triangle hole at the top corner of the net that was about 4" wide
Sweet!

Well, enough about Blaine (that's the rearview mirror). Time to bring on the Pioneers of H-M!!!

That's not going to be the blowout that the Roseau-Blaine game was but Roseau's going to win that one by two or three goals...particularly if Roseau plays its top game (which it clearly did not do tonight).

Well Slappy, maybe Section 8 is best in the state, deeper than ol' Union Lake

I can’t believe Blaine coach David Aus actually said…

“If we switch goalies, we probably win that game 8-2,”

What a most undeserving slam to Blaine starting goalie, Danny Harper. Obviously, Harper did not have a good game, but how much of that was due to the accuracy of Roseau’s laser-beam shooting. Harper let in a couple soft goals, but to suggest goaltending was the difference in this game is nothing short of laughable. Roseau took a relatively small number of precision shots, and were allowed to walk right in to point blank range throughout the game. They either hit or barely missed the corners all night. And Lee made a few great saves, but faced nowhere near the number of virtually impossible saves Harper did, and the 2nd goal he allowed was a bit soft as well.

Aus was visibly shaken in his between period TV interview. But making a ridiculous remark like that suggests he was not emotionally prepared to face Roseau, and maybe doesn’t have a firm grasp on sports psychology, particularly as it relates too instilling confidence in his players. Ness, Landman, and Nelson took the Blaine skaters to the woodshed last night, and no goalie could have changed the outcome. Aus should have just acknowledged that, rather than using Harper as an undeserving scapegoat. Very un-classy in my opinion.

I think Schwan's should take a little of that Corn dog money and use it on some goalie clinics. The Blaine golies were Horrible! If they get even average goaltending this team is in the game.

Blaine is a good team, I dont blame those goals on Harper except that 4th one where Landman walked from the corner and backhanded it. Hollerud played brutal. Blaine has good offense but lacks depth in the defensive department, their most consistant defenseman (from what ive seen) is Jon Walberg, who is a first year varsity player. Roseau is a great team with great goaltending, should be a great final game.

Again.....
Can someone tell me why Roseau needs to travel to the cities to play in the Schwann Cup????

Teams they have played this year who were in the CUP...
Moorhead
W: 7 - 2
W: 4 - 0
W: 6 - 1

Brainerd
W: 7 - 0

Blaine
W: 1 - 0
W: 8 - 2

Look to add a couple more to the list tonight and tomorrow...

The Rams beat them to the puck in numbers all night, any loose puck, or puck carrier was quickly closed in on by a forechecker, and then quickly backed up by another.
Even when the Rams were shorthanded, they applied so much pressure it made the Bengals fumble the puck, and whiff on passes.

Quality of shots, not quantity, and the Rams having the better goalie also made a big difference.

Hats of to the Rams! and
Nice run Bengals!

I think all Aus was pointing out is that the Blaine goaltending was not sharp last night and Lee was...and Blaine couldn't afford to fall behind 3-0 and have any chance against Roseau...I don't think he truly mean't what the quote states but was saying it in jest, more out of frustration than anything. If you had any idea how hard Dave Aus, Scott Richart and Darrin Thompson have WORKED 12 MONTHS A YEAR for several years to get Blaine to where they've been (3 consecutive state tourney appearances) you'd maybe understand how frustrated he must have been last night after the game.

Aus' pre-game speech was very good . . . told the David/Goliath story, and then asserted that his team was David. Great, big, metro school getting picked on by a school with the enrollment maybe 1/6 their size. I found myself cheering for Goliath in this case. 8)

I totally agree with you. Doesn't that coach (loosely used term) realize that Harper will remember this his whole life! Bad enough he didn't have the game he dreamed of having.
