While the TV coverage of the games themselves haven't been bad at all, the coverage inbetween has been especially disapointing, Housley not even included.
Yesterday I watched a complete re-run of inbetween specials of Antonovich and Mayasich and the like - repeats from the first day. And with no disrespect given to those legends, they are are indeed, but it's time to move past that. It's been covered. It's common knowledge.
Come on boys! You've had, what, a year to prepare for an annual event that you KNOW is going to have a captive audience from not just the State, but hockey faithful across the country (and some of our gang in Iraq and other duty stations!) and elsewhere. With the internet, this is truely and international brodcast now.
You owe it the fans to do something better than stupid repeats TWO DAYS IN A ROW. Its embarrasing. Its, in my opinion, unprofessional as well. They could make Mickey Mouse play hockey on a rink with a high school sweater playing Snoopy and it would be more entertaining than watching the same thing twice in a row like I have seen....hmmm idea anyone? ha ha ha.
Of all the rich history this state has to offer, of all the people who have played...contributed...coached....and made this tournament and game what it is today, this is what you come up with?? This is your pinnacle achievment???
I know there are budget constraints...I know that it must be hard for reporters, commentators and a limited staff, but the bidding networks should know that before even vying for a bid on what is one of the greatest sports events in the United States. To water it down is almost a crime....it is a crime! To try and skimp it by to the masses is almost insulting to the true fans of the game. The producive mentality of "Oh, that's good enough, it's just a high school game", doesn't and shouldn't apply. This is one of the premire sports events in the nation...it should be revered and treated as such.
And until 2015 or something, we're stuck with this???? I'm sorry, but that just sucks. I'll say it again: sucks. A lot more can be done to such a fine tournament.
I've seen the State hockey tournament in Wisconsin and it PALES in comaprison to ours... (even though I've heard some WI faithful say otherwise, trust me - I've seen and played and breathed more than enough hockey to tell you, it simply isn't true and to suggest it is almost even laughable).
I wish the stations could see past the money, staffing and other issues...the players do. The coaches and fans do. It's about the spirit and atmosphere of being there. It's the pride you carry with your town, city and school and communities. THATS what its about. Not Lou. Not Phil. Not the between period school money voucher giveaways.
(Great and just as I say all of this, they do ANOTHER Housley intermission between the DM and Warroad game - UGH!!! ENOUGH ALREADY GUYS!!!!)
I know I speak for the majority of people on here, but already this years tournament coverage is more than disapointing....not the game coverage...not the color commentary (although it's pretty bad too at times - not bad...just lousy)...but the potential for a GREAT tournament second to absolutely none! Anyone remember the tournaments of the 80's? They were some EXCELLENT pieces of production done then. And yet almost 15 years later, technology aside, we've come up with this? Time for a change in format. Time for something a network or station can be proud to produce...unlike what I've seen this weekend, and I've done media before as well, so I do know what I'm talking about.
If KSTC can't do this right, the MSHL should go with someone who can. And I hope theres someone out there who can do...cause I know, and most of us faithful out here do, know there is.
(wipes forehead) Whew! OK done venting for now.

what about the commercials?
some of the commercials are pretty bad too. I swear that seeing that Tom Dooher guy from the teachers union or that dancing blue cross guy every break makes me want kill myself. Thank god the original mattress factory isn't a sponsor because that just would be too much for me to bear.

Character is who you are when no one is watching
Whats up with the looking back into the 30's and 40's? Most hockey fans in this state know the history of hockey here. Why not be looking more at the teams there TODAY. They have showed the same graphs over and over to the point I can tell you everything a team did back in 1930. Anyone else wonder if the kids in Stillwater think Phil is as boreing to listen to when hes coaching as we do when hes on tv?

Atleast HEAD-ON isn't a sponsor as well. How annoying.bubulater wrote:some of the commercials are pretty bad too. Maybe next year we can get the Henry Boucha story going again. Another obvious story for next year will be the Spehar crap again about scoring a hat trick in 3 games at state. Seems to be common place. I bet this years video of Spehar was from a couple years ago. Dig into the archives and find old footage to replay during intermission.

They would be alot better off showing us a tiny mite game during the breaks. Whats more fun then watching the little guys slip around out on the ice. It wont be long and I will have to scratch out my eyes from seeing the same thing over and over. Wait there is hope......the tourney is only one more day!
