Honor and Loyality

Post by shorty »

I'm proud to know that the Kids I know/coach will most likely stay in the same organization that they are brought up in. No sell outs up here. Playing with their buddies all the way to high school. These privite schools are like the Yankees. Come here, come here. Where are you from?? Eden Prairie or Benild?? Edina or St. Thomas?? East or Marshell??
Tori Hunter left, leave your team, congrats. Kirby stayed, loved his team and organization. Thanks Kirby. Whats more important?? Buddies, teammates, young kids in your program, coaches, or who ever goes to state..... You tell your buddies that. Your not important..

Shorty,
I am in the same boat. I'm pretty sure all of my kids will be here all the way through youth hockey and high school. We are one of the smallest schools in the state with a high school program. None of my players are superstars, but they work their asses off all year long in every sport they play, they all play more than hockey. I am in the Peewee program this year, so some of my kids are old enough to drive snowmobiles and four wheelers, and on any given night, at least half of them show up at practice on their snowmobile. And the best of all, all 13 Peewees qualified for the S.K.A.T.E. program this year with a cumulative GPA of 3.78! I am more proud of that than our winning record.......

I would be willing to bet you never ended a season with an odd number of penalty minutes in your life and you are a wannabe living through your kid who plays 'A' hockey because Daddy is on the Board!!!!!!!

Kirby and Tori are pros, they go where the money goes. So if a child wants to play somewhere else they are considered a sell out? Maybe his buddies are not good enough to play on the other (private school) team, so he has to stay and play with them? Private schools have to get players from somewhere. Remember its just a game, your small school wont win all the time. Why give a kid a hard time for playing with a more skilled/competitive team, this may create more opportunities for this student player. Its just a game, let them play where they want.

Bruins,
I don't expect our small school to win all the time. I expect our kids to come out of high school prepared for college and the real world by the time they are a young adult. I think is says alot about a kid staying with his pals. Do I think kids are wrong to jump ship, not really. How many MN kids actually play D1, I would love to see some strong numbers relating to how many are actually registered in youth hockey and how many move up to D1.???

Rockcrusher, lots of kids thrive on the challenge of going to a new private school and making new friends and playing on a new team. Most kids graduating from private school are very well prepared for college. Im sure if you had a star player on your team and he had a chance to play at HM, BSM, or St. Thomas you would not say he is a sellout. What if this kid wants to give it his best try to play D1. Private schools do crank out a fair amount of D1 players. Great education and great hockey, why give them a hard time for trying. I wouldnt give the other kids a hard time for not wanting to try.

First off my reply was not to your post but the one above yours. If you notice the time we posted.
Second, you have no clue what you are talking about. I am not on any board and I have no kids that even play A hockey. Nice try though.

It sounds like you had a good group of kids. Maybe some of the kids that leave the local association or high school are searchiing for that very same thing. Maybe they can't find it where they are at because of the very things you tried to pin on me.

Any thread that says if you don't stay at your home association or high school regardlesss of the situation than you are not "honorable" is dumb.

This thread isn't as dumb as it is bitter. What about kids who have gone to private schools their entire lives? Are they sellouts too?

The best example of this type of thing to the extreme is the "student" athlete who transfered from private school to private school and then again to another private school. Yes it did happen.
