Nanne is traditionally been very tough when announcing Hill-Murray games. But he told it like it was tonight. Can you disagree Hills defense played their best game of the year and the the forwards for the first time in recorded history back checked well? Who played well for Roseau that he should have been talking about. Lee didn't have a big game, Philippi out played him. Ness had some great moves, but he couldn't do it himself and Hill sucessfully pounded the snot out of the Rams. So don't get pissy at Nanne for calling a spade a spade.

Thanks Neut. I'd rather be playing Red and Black tomorrow night, but hey, I'll be honest here. I'd be a hell of a lot happier sticking it to Edina. Not sure my squad will be up for two in a row, but who knows. No one thought they could beat up on Roseau and they did.

We got it the first time, also, if i have to hear "Hill Murray just shut down Roseau" im going to pueke, Has Nanne honestly Heard about the history of Towns like Roseau, Warroad, Eveleth, Hibbing, Grand Rapids etc....
i wanted Roseau to win in the worst way, but what does the history of northern towns have to do with the way HM Played tonight...they deserved the praise,.,..even though I hate to say it.
If you haven't watched the Broadcasts of the games the last few years, Lou Nanne is Always talking positive about the southern teams, and rarely says something good about northern teams.

Not true. I can't recall one positive thing he said about any school that wasn't Northern during the championship game last year...

Just a shame to go 29-1. This had nothing to do with a weak schedule or coaching or anything like that. They just ran into a team on a mission. And God help Scott Oliver.

Been there and done that. Check my squad's record in 1980...

There actually are a lot of level-headed Roseau fans. I've exchanged private messages with a few. When I asked some questions in a survey form the most common answer to one of the questions was that they suspected Roseau would have lost 2 or 3 if they faced Edina's schedule.

Now for the small minority doing most of the posting - Pareto, anyone? - we shall see. Amos, BIAFP, and a few others. They acted like it was unconscionable that Roseau could lose, touted Lee as the best goaltender not named Hasek, scoffed at the notion that Edina may be as good as them, and acted as though Ness is a can't miss. (FWIW, Gleason is the best HS skater I've seen and all year he rushed up ice and wound up in the corner. Yesterday against a mediocre Cloquet team he somehow found himself in front of the net and scored twice...something he couldn't do much all season. Yes, it matters a lot who you play.)

Roseau obviously has a great team. I really wanted to see them win so I'd finally get the answer to the question. I have no idea if Edina could beat them and will never know.

Congratulations to Hill-Murray. What a great outing. And props to the Roseau Rams. Great season, great two-year run.
O-Town, good post. Roseau has a fantastic squad and it just wasn't their night. Lee, like every other human, gets an off night once in a while. Roseau could beat Edina, just like Edina could beat Roseau. The 4 semi-finalists (along with Tonka) were the cream of the crop this year. And ay would have been a deserving champ. Hill had questions about their not pretty losses too. So they were able to use tonight as a coming out party. Roseau's streak was something to behold and they should be damn proud of it. And while they won't be 2 time defending champs, they still are batting .500 in the past two years. Only one other team in state will be able to say that.

Roseau should be proud of their streak! They are a great team!

Many of the elite city schools are just deeper and HM wore them down. I was pulling for Roseau but to blame it on officials or announcers is only showing sour grapes.

There is no doubt that HM was and is the better team.

A quote from Lechner in the Star Tribune.

"They are too good a team," Hill-Murray coach Bill Lechner said. "We couldn't sit back. Our game plan was to get a one- or two-goal lead and use our depth to wear them down."

And it worked to perfection. Roseau was out worked on the ice and out coached on the bench.

Better team won.

Hill

From a Hill Murray perspective, the game was great and showed exactly what this years Hill Murray team is, a persistent group of players.

From a Roseau standpoint, call the Patriots and ask them how they are recovering from being on top of the heap to only get bounced!

I was thinking the same thing, not many Rams fans mentioning this fact.

In my eyes Roseau looked to Comfortable at the start. It looked to me like they just thought things would work out like they always have this year. How much do you think not playing better teams comes into play? It's too bad they are so far up north it would have been nice to see them play some more of the top teams earlier when they weren't under such pressure.

Anyways Congrats to the Hill boys You guys played a heck of a game Hopefully you left enough in the tank for Edina.

Looks like a 91 Blades Convention at the Xcel tonight.

Hill played a great game and deserves a shot at the title tonight.
Roseau was gonna lose sooner or later. Nobody wins 42 games in a row.
Law of averages says you can't play at a high enough level to win forever.
Minnesota teams will eventually catch up with you.
Still would have liked to see them play Edina tonight but............

Honestly, no. But I did experience one of Roseau's titles. IF, IF Roseau wins third, there will still be a lot of disappointment.

The Cake Eater Cup!

Post by hockeyfanatic99 »

I can hear it already...daddy's money, daddy's money! Edina _ucks...etc. Or, it's the Cake Eater Cup, all part of our hockey in this State of Hockey! But we must not forget .. it is our hockey! Not Wisconsin's, Michigan's or heaven forbid anyone on the east coast. Remember, today a Ram tomorrow a Gopher or today a Pioneer tomorrow a Bulldog or Maverick, you get the message. Enjoy, because these moments will all too soon be memories. Please make some new one's I am getting a little tired of watching Spehar's - just joking!

Where is Philipe going to school next year?
From what I have heard, none of the Hill (Flip, Cecka, Furne, Sova, Dolan) boys have received offers. Just what I've heard tho, no confirmation.
Do you expect Sova to get an offer? He has size, but he's slow and he spends most of the game mugging guys after the whistle and chopping anything within twenty feet of him. You'd think he's invisible with the crap he gets away with!

Sova plays a mean defense and chips in offense when he can. Something most college teams strive for...I'm thinking sometime after this tournament Sova may see an offer, just not sure where it'd come from. Cecka, Furne, and Phillippi also should be getting more serious looks.

What about taking the Juniors route first??

Couldn't you see him playing well down at Mankato or possibly with Motzko up at Stearns County CC? He does have size, he can skate, he just needs to refine his skills. But you can't teach skating and size, so he may very well ride that to a D1 scholarship offer.

None of the HM boys will be getting offers this year, just not that good, maybe a couple years of Juniors... Don't get mad now, they played well as a team last night, and I would still take Roseau in a best of series, HM was the better team last night...
Quite frankly Sova should look at the UFC for his career after high school, too slow, plodder, kids at next level would eat him alive...

More than likely Cityhockey. It's always possible once the tournament ends that a player or two will see an offer for their efforts. I'm just interested to see if that would happen...

Congratulations to Hill-Murray. Philipi and the penalty killers were the difference. When Roseau didn't score on the powerplays it resulted in a trickle down effect. The second line is much more effective when Oliver is skating there. It basically made Roseau a one line team. Usually this is a nonfactor because of the strength of the power play. Roseau had a few scoring droughts during the year and it was disappointing getting one last night. I am not sure the game plan was a good one putting the Rams on the power play so much but it turned out perfect for Hill.

Should be two great games today. Roseau threw the third place game in 1998 and the coaches were blasted for it. I look to Roseau to come out and play hard. Let down should not be an excuse for either team.

P.S. The reason I hate class a more than any other is TV coverage. I would rather watch the consolation and third place over the class a championship any day.

Physical play was the huge difference in this tilt.

Congrats to Hill-Murray on knocking off the Rams. They were the better team last night and deserved that win

They outplayed Roseau to such an extent for most of the game that they might be the better team, period. In other words, this one game may not have been a fluke. Going into the game, like most people here I had Roseau winning and was pulling for them. But if they were to play again in a week, I think I would pick Hill to win because they were just that dominant.

I dunno about being the better team period. They got ahead though and there was no looking back. Rams players starting getting frustrated, trash talking after whistles. Stuff I normally don't see from that team. i watched it on TV and was it just me or did the Hill-Murray players just seem to dwarf the Roseau team with the exception of a few Rams like Oliver and a couple more.
