The H-M community is extremely proud tonight as it's been too long since that last championship banner was hung back in '91. Joe Phillippi, what an outstanding performance, no better way to end a terriffic four year career. You guys put on an incredible team performance against a couple of the best programs in the state on consecutive nights to earn a well deserved state championship. It doesn't get any better than that. Enjoy the celebration, I know I will!!
Well said. Knowing essentially the entire team, I couldn't be more proud of this tournament and displaying the team they truly had. This one will be remembered for years to come!!!! Best of luck to the seniors who all contributed. From Ryan Furne and Dan Cecka sniping, to Dan Sova and Bo Dolan crunching, to Joe Phillippi being a stone wall, and to Lou Metcalf and Dave Cascalenda who both scored big goals, you guys were all outstanding!

Hockeyguy_27 wrote:As a former Hornet player this is hard to say but the better team definitely won tonight. Hill Murray played a great game and their goaltender was on fire. If we had to get beat by someone at least it was by a guy like Lechner who is a class act. Congratulations to the Pioneers on winning their 3rd state championship.

Better? I wouldn't say better they had the better goalie tonight and that won them the game. Hill dominated the first, Edina took the second, and the Third was split pretty even and Flip came up big for Hill a number of times as did the pipe.
Give those team identical goaltenders, and I want to say Edina was better (but that's biased, so there you go). But they don't have identical goaltenders. Hill has Phillipi and Edina does not. Hill is better (ouch, that hurts to say!).

Utmost congratulations to Hill Murray!

Wow What a ride. From the all of the H-M players playing in the Elite league. To the preseaon scrimmages in Grand Rapids. To the ups and downs of the regular season. To the great performance in the state tournament. It's been a long time coming for us diehard pioneer hockey fans. Congratulation on a great State Championship.

If I recall, Hill was rated as high as 3 this year but I kept asking telling myself while watching the tourney that this team was playing great hockey. They worked hard, skated hard, checked hard and got great goaltending.

Just a great 3 game performance by a very solid hockey club. Congrats to the Pioneers.

I think my name on here speaks for itself. Great job boys! You made a lot of people happy & the alumni are very proud of ya. The memories will last a lifetime & you will never look at the state tournament the same way again. You left a wonderful impression on many people. Your friends, families, classmates, and alums all enjoyed the ride & for that we thank you.

Couldn't be more happy for Lech. Great guy who always teaches the big picture. It was great to see him lead his team to the top. Couldn't help but think that his mom, who recently passed away, may have provided a little devine intervention from above...thanks Mrs. Lech!

As the for this "bored". Thanks so much to Lee for creating such a forum. I appreciate the ability to track scores as quickly as people post them around the state rather that waiting on the paper the next moring. It's nice to learn about players/teams I rarely get a chance to see during the year. It's nice to share ideas with people who share a similiar passion for the game of hockey, and in particular, high school hockey.

For those of you that I may have offended, pissed off, agitated, angered, irritated, and annoyed....mission accomplished. It's like siblings, you may argue & fight, but in the end, it's all good. I wish you all a safe & happy off-season.

Once again, congrats to the 2008 Minnesota State Boys High School Hockey Champions...The Hill Murray Pioneers! =D>

Congrats to the Hill Murray! You are the State Champs without question.

It was great to see Ryan Furne finally receive the accolades he deserves. The media, and this site often create mythical impressions of players that are often inflated by virtue of their name recognition. Congrats to Flip who was on his game as the hornets diverted from their successful team play, often forcing plays relying at times on too much individual effort. More worker bees on needed. Sorry to see Matt Leer not on the All-tourney team as he left everything he on the ice each night and played fantastic.

Edina returns a ton of talent, How they come together as a team will be the issue.

Congrats to Hill Murray you guys mowed down the #1 and #2 ranked clubs on back to back nights and you did it with 5 guys busting their hump every shift out. Tip of the cap to your hockey club and fans. Both nights were great games to watch even though I was pulling for Roseau all the way.

Congratulations to Hill on their State Championship! Coach Lechner is a true class act and he put together a great game plan against the two best the state had to offer. Enjoy it!

Any of you Hill fans know the first name of Sova's dad?

I've been classically a Hill Murray basher, but, without a doubt what a GREAT CHAMPIONSHIP for Hill. Joe Phillpi, a performance to quiet us critics thats for sure. Ryan Furne, top notch kid, top notch job. To the whole team and coaching staff and "Hill Murray Nation" Congatulations, Great Job...Champions. i gotta go get sick now.

as I attended mass this morning I couldnt help but notice all the roseau ram fans in attendance. Should have started sooner!

I would like to thank PPG, pioneers, Basil Chaps, pistol, spare ribs, and the other HM supporters. Congrats

Also, I would like to thank people who hated us. Especially the 7/8ths of the X that was cheering for roseau/edina. You fueled the team, and gave them that extra edge.

Congrats on the Championship boys!
