Barnes and Gardiner were both rated as 'A' players this year meaning drafted in the top 2 rounds. I also throw Ness in there because even though he wasnt rated this year because he is a junior, he would have been an 'A' player as well.
Ness was rated an "A" player as well. It doesn't matter what grade you are in. Blake Wheeler was drafted the summer after his junior year. As long as you are 18 years old prior to September 15th of this year, you are eligible for this year's draft. Ness was born in May 1990 and is draft eligible.
Though my team is the Hornets, I'd pick Ness over Gleason in a heartbeat. Also Gardiner. That's not to criticize Gleason; he is a quality player. But not as good as those guys.
I just don't get it. I think Aaron Ness is extremely deserving of the Mr. Hockey Award, but that's because of what he did this year; completed his junior and senior years while playing hockey and working out. That would be extremely demanding physically and mentally. BUT, I think that isn't fair to take into consideration...because the TRUE seniors can't repeat their junior years. IMO, I think it would have been better to pick a senior who started out being a senior last September, not half way through the season.

Its pretty easy though. Being a "Senior" means its your last season of highschool. This was his last season before hes in college so by its truest sense he was a senior this year. Congrats Aaron you worked hard for this! I am sure he would trade this for another state title though.
