Fix
There is not many ways to "fix" things but here are what i think are the best ways
1. Move all the private schools to AA pretty much all of them would have a decent chance to compete.
2. One class 16 teams in state
3. 64 team tournament. this way you get the best 8 or 16 teams in state. if that means 3 are from the north or 0 it doesnt matter we get the best and we get to watch the best hockey possible with no 8-2, 9-2 games.

You would have to ask lee to do that but i disagree with what you are saying because we saw how the competition was on thursdayMNHockeyFan wrote:You should add a 4th option: "Leave Things As They Are".
They just set an all-time attendance record. There is nothing to fix.

I think the competition on Thursday went as expected. All of the seeded teams won, and it wasn't real hard to predict the winners. It's very similar to the first round of the NCAA playoffs - the higher seeded teams usually win.pondyplayer93 wrote:You would have to ask lee to do that but i disagree with what you are saying because we saw how the competition was on thursdayMNHockeyFan wrote:You should add a 4th option: "Leave Things As They Are".

I believe the scores were a little more lopsided than what we would like to see. But this has more to do with the relative strength of the different geographic sections than anything else. This has pretty been the case since they've been playing the tournament 60+ years ago.

I don't think I said the higher seeded teams always win. Last year was a bit of a fluke I believe. This year, things went true to form. I would guess that over time you would see probably 3 of the 4 seeded teams win in the quarterfinals. There is always a chance for the non-seeded teams, otherwise they wouldn't need to bother with playing the games!pondyplayer93 wrote:the higher seed doesnt usually win

of course there is, but correct me if im wrong by thinking this but i believe that state should be the best 8 teams regardless if for that year it means 3,4,5 teams from north or maybe 0 or 1MNHockeyFan wrote:I don't think I said the higher seeded teams always win. Yes I agree the 5AA and 2AA section games were about as good as you'll ever see (I was there). Don't forget that the sections are seeded too and in the first round games you usually see lopsided scores. But they are designed to give the better teams a good opportunity to advance to the finals, rather than having the two best teams having to play each other early on. Also as a sort of reward for doing well during the year. In State the idea is the same, but usually there are imbalances as some sections are stronger than others. The geographic alignment is the way it's been done since Day 1, and they use this for other sports too so it's doubtful that you will ever see a change. It does serve a good purpose in that it allows for teams in all parts of the State to be represented, which keeps interest level up. With the possible exception of Section 1, over time things have balanced out pretty well over the years.pondyplayer93 wrote:of course there is, but correct me if im wrong by thinking this but i believe that state should be the best 8 teams regardless if for that year it means 3,4,5 teams from north or maybe 0 or 1

Re: Fix
The tournament is pretty good as is. If you have to "fix something", explore the open enrollment practices. When topics come up about some kid possibly winning two titles with two different teams, that becomes a red flag. Maybe make them sit out a year or 10 games or something.pondyplayer93 wrote:There is not many ways to "fix" things but here are what i think are the best ways

Re: Fix
there already was a rule created by the MSHSL (all transfers must sit out a year) to try and hurt the private schoolsrightwinger wrote:The tournament is pretty good as is. Re: Fix
The new transfer rules should pretty much take care of the problem of kids jumping to other schools just for athletic reasons. Open enrollment is a good idea for academics, which is what it was originally designed for.rightwinger wrote:The tournament is pretty good as is.
