Congratulations - we outstaters wish things would have been different in the state tournament! However, just another lesson in life. I noticed well wishes for the next level - I thought Mr. Ness was a junior. Am I mistaken?

Where have you been all season? Ness accelerated his schooling so he could be declared a senior, thus making himself eligible for this award, and to also make himself available to the Gophers next season. It's been well documented all season long. Congratulations to Ness, while he still is a great player, I think Mr. Gardiner got slighted. Had nothing to do with age or class, I simply thought Gardiner was a better player with more upside. Ness is definitely a deserving player and I will be pulling for him to do great things with the maroon and gold.

Wrong! Are you thinking Hobey Baker? The Mr. MN Hockey Award was not around during Neal's high school days. I think 1986 was its first year; it was awarded to the late great George Pelawa from Bemidji.

Actually (thank you Google), the first year of the award was 1985 when Tom Chorske from Minneapolis Southwest was named Mr. MN Hockey.
