Does not matter...

First of all congratulations to Nes on becoming Mr. Hockey, well deserved. But, if anyone was at the X on Thursday the announcer said "junior - Aaron Ness". Yes he is taking accelerated classes to graduate this spring early, but while he has won his award he was still a junior, so the award should now have the asterisk.

I am not saying he doesn't deserve it, but the award is for the senior and he technically is still a senior. From now on the award should be given to the best player in the state regardless of the year, such as the Hobey Baker does. This is just my opinion. The award is not necessarily given to the best player. If you want an example I have two: and yes this is from home. 2004 jack Hillen four years varsity and the best defensemen in the state, maybe not an NHL prospect, but still the best. Gorowski won that year. 2006 Jay Barriball, he was the best player ont he ice that ear hands down. Fisher from Apple Valley won that year. Again, just my opinion.

Congrats again to Mr. Ness, I thought you played great on Thursday and will welcome you to the Gophers nation.

He was classified as a senior earlier in this winter as he had made up enough work to be considered one at that point. Not only is your commentary inaccurate but your asterisk idea is stupid.

Not to mention, your two examples reek of your usual AHA bias.

That'd be a neat trick by Broten considering the award didn't exist until after Broten had put on a North Stars jersey.

My commentary is completely accurate, the announcer said "junior". If he did qualify as a senior, then yes there is no need for an asterisk and why not. Everyone else calls for an an asterisk on everything else.

What has my bias got to do with it? Those are just examples. I am sure other people have other examples.

Anyway, I am only stating my opinion on the matter. He is an excellent player and I feel he will be a great addition to the Gophers and I am a huge Gopher fan also..... Time to let this go...

Is it necessary to sit hear and talk about how Ness isn't a legit candidate for Mr. Hockey? I personally don't think he would have been too affected if he wasn't eligible for the award. I have known Aaron a very long time and with his many, many awards, praises, and accolades he's received he remains one of the most grounded and non-egotistical high school students I have met (athlete or not). Yes winning Mr. Hockey will be added to that list but Aaron, his parents, his friends, teammates, and coaches didn't go running around talking about how Aaron should be eligible to win the award just because he will graduate this spring. He is a class act, his family is a class act, and he deserves everything he has gotten up to this point and what he will get in the future. Keep working Aaron and things will fall into place for you like former Ram Mr. Broten. Good luck Aaron

You act as if announcers are the model of perfection and are the ones putting together the facts. You do realize they just read off of a list, right? Something that obviously had not been updated since he had qualified to be a senior at that point.

Doubt that has happened before. Mr and Ms Hockey 2008 have been dating since August. It wasn't really a secret at all, at least not in Bemidji, but I guess this makes it official.
