He probably picked the team. I love how Neal made the first team, even though he's never won a tourney (ala Aaron Ness, went in undefeated came out with a loss).

Agree, how many others have made the jump from high school directly to the NHL? And until recently was the all-time U.S. top scorer? His scoring record as a U.S.-born NHL defenseman will probably never be broken.

I looked all over the Metro for a vintage old school Phil Housley jersey and did I find one NO, I was really disappointed

Scotty Bowman watched Housley play 2 games in the '81 state tournament as a junior and decided that was enough to pick him with the #5 overall pick, he must have done well in those games.

Martin's Elk River team didn't make it to state his senior year. Might have been the 2nd most dominant HS team of all time behind 93 Jefferson, but they lost in the section semi's.

Not seeing Spehar on the list is what made it no longer valid in my book.

Scotty Bowman watched Housley play 2 games in the '81 state tournament as a junior and decided that was enough to pick him with the #5 overall pick, he must have done well in those games.

Only problem is - Housley was the 6th overall pick.

Quite possibly because he was the best player to come out of Minn. at that time. Stats don't dictate how great of a player you are. Position, quality of play, etc...For as many people that don't like Housley for what he does now there were at least that many that appreciated what he was as a hockey player. He was simply the best U.S. born player to play his position in the NHL. I could care less if he's a good coach now, or a good announcer now, he was and will always be the best Minnesota born NHL player at his postition for his era. He deserved being put on the all time team as much as anyone.

but WTH. its an all tournament team, its not what you have done somewhere else or your regular season stats, its the tournament, wasnt there a defensemen in the earlry 80s that was on the ice for like almost all the game through out the tourney, and not having Spehar on the list does truly make it invalid, He had the most dominating stats ever of the tourney, what more could one person do,,,,, except kiss the a-- of the selectors, as for Housley, great player, but had nothing in the tourney

He only made it once with his team...He is the anti great high school hockey tourny player...he did not make his team better but actually worse...without him the % they went in those days was very high and with him only 25%...

Spehar actually made the second team which I think he should have been on the first.

Plus, how in the heck can they leave a future hall of famer off that team. So congratulations on making yourself sound like an idiot.
