You'd have to ask the person in charge of recruiting and advertising. They probably have 200 or so people applying to the school for next year who still have to take tests and what not, of which hockey has nothing to do.

4. Do you play hockey?
5. What is your parents annual income?
6. Who was the first president of the United States?
7. Who assassinated President Lincoln?
8. How many goals did you score as a bantam?
9. Where did you play your youth hockey?
10. Do you want to go to the JV state tournament every year and be the runner up?

Any truth to the rumor that they are changing their nickname to the SPUDS?

right, East would be #1 seed and beat Marshall. Then lose in to the #4 seed in the semis for the third year in a row.

Don't worry about Marshall stepping up to Section 7AA. They won't do that. But from the looks of it, it wouldn't be the worst move in the world. They beat CEC this year along with Benilde, in fact, this would then FORCE Duluth East to play Marshall as everyone knows the story behind that.
I can't believe that in a city like Duluth, with 4 High School programs (currently), and the top two programs can't even play each other during the year all because of a certian coaches "ego."
I say Duluth showcases some true hockey at the DECC and fills the stands for a rivalry that would add more excitement to the 218ers life than the Bulldogs do! Who cares, maybe East wins more often than not...but I asure you that Marshall makes a game out of it if they don't win. Duluth needs a little excitement...forget heading down to the "Cities" to play competition...you've got it in your own backyard!

I know that for a fact, the last time DM vs DE faced-off was during the 1998-99 season. Duluth fans have been shunned the opportunity to watch two solid programs battle it out for bragging rights in a city that much like the rest of the state, takes pride in their own hockey programs.
This should have been an exciting rivalry in the making during the last 9 years (or a rekindling of what was in the past)...most important, it has the type of rivalry that can still gain state-wide attention! Just think about the strength of DE matching up against the well built foundation of a DM program. It's sad.
