Yuck some of these kids should just get on with their lives and go to school instead of playing lower level hockey. If you can't make a MJHL team you are probably better off going to school cause a D-III scholarship is a long way off but chase your dreams everyone needs to.crash wrote:Jr C Tier III, it will be a 'minor league' for teams like the MJHL and CSHL.
The DEMON
Someone's gotta ask the question: What would it cost to play in this league. I mean, the MJHL (is that the correct abb.?) costs each player something like $2500 to $5000 each to play. (could be off a bit either way here) What are the odds of moving on from this league? Not real high. A couple might move up to the NAHL, and a select few might catch on with a D-III team, but the majority of these guys will keep playing and draining the wallet for a chance to play in front of 150 people a night. Now, a Jr. C program.. how many really will play beyond their season, and how much will they pay for the chance?

If a player wants to keep playing, and they understand the costs (for Mom and Dad) and that the odds of moving beyond is slim at best, then go for it. It's all about when do you get the dose of reality and get on with life?Goldy Gopher wrote:If you can't make it on an MJ team it might be time to hang 'em up.
D III does not offer athletic scholarships so yeah, that would be a long way off. What they can do is offer a player an ACADEMIC scholarship based on their grades, ACT scores and perhaps some athletic skill.darkdemon wrote:Yuck some of these kids should just get on with their lives and go to school instead of playing lower level hockey. Or go on to school and play some sort of league there? It's a tough call as it's hard to give up a dream if Mom and Dad and willing to pony up.shooter812 wrote:oh my god there is no reason for this league. if you cant make the MJ...Q-U-I-T if you wanna keep playin save some money and play in a beer league.

GLJHL
I looked at the website and it says nothing about what tier it is? People might be getting this mixed up with the great lakes league in canada which is Junior C. If it is a C, i will be very disapointed because it would be nice to have a B league in the midwest

Another Jr. League?
Have we had enough yet? Its bad anough that some of the college scouts and higher level junior scouts have their own seasons to caoch, opponents to scout and recruits to contact, that are closer. Are we still adding leagues now too? Lets take a look at the leagues playing right now in the central area of the US. The MJ is still struggling to get players to advance. (say all you want Ice Hawk fans, college hockey at a respected level is played under the NCAA umbrella, not ACHA) The CSHL is a bit better because they cornered the market on all the extra aged out midget players already playing in the Wisconsin/Mich/Illi areas. The Nor Pac has the same out west and the WSHL is hardly competing, like the MJHL with the NAHL for players PERIOD.
Lets not water it down for these colleges anymore than it already is. I went to a game in Rochester, they have something good, maybe good enough to get back to the big leagues. Only they need a coach and staff with the stones to go after it and quit hanging their hats on ficticious players playing college hockey at a high level(This will start a sweet board battle, I feel it). They run a good ship and their coach will get better some day.
Lets face it though, really! How much money do you think most D3 schools have for recruiting, to cover all this ground? Especially when the talent is going to get more and more diluted. Junior hockey is supposed to be for ELITE players. Not dreamer beer leagers. Good luck though.

Your funny Bigboy, what would the Coach have to do with the program moving up?
Also it's pretty clear you don't know what higher level hockey is and who has gone where from the Hawks.
The program speaks for it's self.
Ask the MIAC/NCHA coaches what they think of the Ice Hawks, I think your post will seem a little, well, empty.
Anyway you have your thoughts and thats great, I guess the people who live it and love it will have a different thought.

They are good!
You'd be suprised what I know, DENT! I've been around a while and have spoken to a lot of the MIAC....... whoa! Did you say NCHA too? Now I know you don't know that much now either. For the MIAC it MIGHT be easier to get one of these players, but really, I mean seriously, they're not a solid breeding ground for that level of play. MIAC will take twice as more kids directly out of high school programs before coming to the MJHL games, to recruit. I've seen it and I've talked with a bunch of them, so I know its true. The NCHA hardly knows this league is around. I know some of the coaches in that league and they don't even know the names of the teams iin the league. Most and when I say most, I mean really all of the teams would rather scout the Sask. league, NAHL, SIJHL, or even other Tier II & III leagues in Canada. I could be wrong, but not likely. The NCHA is a tougher league by far. Hence, they don't have a need for MJ players, when they have NAHL players pounding down the door to play there.
As far as the coach. I think he does fine. He's a good guy. I was probably a bit rough on him earlier. My point about that was, that he likes beating on the teams in this league to give the town and program some credibility. But, lets face it, with the success they've had, keeping junior hockey alive in that area, lets make the next jump. Go NAHL and really bring the true fans back to Junior hockey. If there's a place to do it, Its Roch.

As far as the level of play I know. Well you will have your own opinion, I'm sure. But I have a big a$$ ring that says otherwise. Yes its been a long time ago. Probably when you were still pushing pucks on a pond, in squirts, but like I said, I've been around. Even for an old gray man. Thanks for the chat though. It gives me something to do between WCHA games. I'm still healing from my snow machine mishap so the computer is my best friend for hockey talk.
