HBTC --> FHIT

Post by FLHRCI_03 »

I heard a possible rumor that FHIT has taken over the Herb Brooks Training Center in Blaine. Has anyone heard this or can confirm it?

Wonder what that will do to the Miracle teams…

Is FHIT going to put together AAA teams now also?

had heard last week that HBTC was under new management. They had really cut the price of their drop-in or flex training.

also, saw that the Showcase AAA teams get a HBTC membership now, and before it was FHIT training. Don't know if the regular Showcase teams also get this membership.

None of that is contradictory to FHIT taking it over. Anyone know more?

I have heard the same. My son is on the Miracle team and he has trained at HBTC for the last year, getting to know many of the coaches there. Nothing is firm yet, but from what I have been told, the change will take place before summer. I don't quite have any details and am wondering why, since this program was doing so well. If anyone has other information, please post up.

I have also talked to the Miracle team directors and they say this will have no effect on the teams. They will still train there and the coaching staff is remaining the same.

Isn't FHIT at Fogerty? and HBTC at Super Rink?

I checked both out today and it appears both are intact.
Don't believe there is any merger of the 2 but I'll ask around.

Who "owns" the Herb Brooks Training center?

I am not totally sure, but the HB Foundation funded the facility and the arena. I am still asking around to see what happened. From what I have been told, their staff is down to just one person. I assume that the National Sports Center owns the space and it is leased by the HB Foundation. Just mostly assumptions at this point and I am still asking around.

Larry Hendrickson former Benilde coach was or is the director of the HBTC to my knowledge. Has Larry given up that position?

Expect a press release on this really soon. That is the answer that I am getting from people directly involved with the HBTC. I have additional information, but cannot share at this time.

Velocity Hockey

Post by Yakunin »

I heard yesterday that they have contacted Velocity Hockey down in Eden Prairie to see if they would come up and run all their off ice training programs. Dan Brooks has some connections with the hockey people that run the Velocity Hockey Center Program down there and would love to get them up to Blaine.

From what I have been told, it is FHIT that is going to be coming in, but I have not seen any official announcement of this yet. I will post any thing I see to this forum.

This is what I know so far:
HB Foundation which owns the space and has run it, cannot financially support this effort any longer. They did not get the expected numbers that they were anticipating. They are still going to support the MN Miracle team and host the 2010 Women's team and run their camps there. They are renting out the space to someone else, to help pay the bills. I am not totally sure on who is coming in yet (most likely FHIT). They are also going to offer some other programs that mirror what HBTC was offering to also help supplement income. From what I have been told, expect a press release from either HBTC, HBF or NSC on Wednesday of this week.

I heard that FHIT will keep their St. Thomas and Fogerty sites for individual training and take over the Herb Brooks Center for team training.
