Wowwwwwww like you said that meyer is a very good player he also played on the fire which means that you have to be good I don't think they would kick someone out of their association that went on to play for the fire.

I think his point was that Westphal is better than Meyer and would be more likely considered one of the top 95s in the state. But, yes, he probably is good, since he's on the fire. He also didn't say Meyer got "kicked out", but "run out." These are two very different things.

ALLLLLLLLLLLL I wasn't very impressed at all.
8 was a nice player but he wasn't close to as good as #87, #22 and #44 on the rapids team.
Who scored all the big goals for Rapids at state #8!
Here's the point. The question is who are some of the best 95's. Talent doesn't necessarily mean best. Meyer has talent but if what I hear is true (and I don't doubt it from the source)...every one of his teammates on his old team confronted him DURING a game and nobody wanted to play with him because they were sick of him being so selfish. Also heard not the brightest kid. So, talent yes. best player....far from it.
Hey, you guys don't know hockey Cody is the smartest player I know. he sees the ice and plays as a team. I don't know where you got you info about him getting ran out of his association. he left. and when I saw him in the Edina tournment he looked good!! you don't get many players that can play defence and offence and be smart about the game.
You are absolutely right. What it appears we have hear is a disgruntled former parent.... amen and good night. An elite player which both they are, can sometimes be punished by their association or city for being too good for them. In this case St Peter does little to support or encourage these type of players to stay. And when something better comes along, they turn the tide. ????? Would they allow their child to attend St Olaf if accepted and the same price as they were accepted into Mankato St as a student..... I believe 100 % would choose St Olaf. There is little reason for either of these boyz to stay and play association hockey as a way to grow as a player then going to a alternative program. This is America and the next time someone needs surgery, legal guidance, tax assistance, capital investors, or protection of the American way, make sure to ask if they did not seek alternative methods of teaching in anyway.

Let me try to clear up credibility here. First the source. I know both players and parents from the team both Meyer and Westphal played on two years ago. Players, parents, and coaches all say the same thing about Meyer....talented but extremely selfish. Nobody has hard feelings about him playing outside the association...if fact they were relieved he left if he was going to continue to play his way. And oh by the way.....his way didn't work....he wasnt' the leading scorer on the team...if fact he was the 3rd of 11 skaters. If he plays differently with the Fire good for him. I would suspect he has to otherwise he would get cut...with his association team his coaches had no choice but to keep him on the team and play him equally with other kids. If he were to go back to his association (which I have heard he probably will) there will definitely be some time before people welcome him back...it will be dependent on how he plays.
As for Westphal the kid is loved by all and would be welcomed back with open arms if he decides to go back. Will he?...not sure.
So, the arguement that both leaving is sour grapes is as far from the truth as possible and to state such as fact is baseless.

so you are basing this on how he played as a squirt or 1st year peewee?
selfish player or did he not see the ice very well?
it will take people time to welcome him back? what kind of sick people are down your way? he is what 12 or 13 give us a break!
o.k. lets be adults about this,so I'm going to get to the point and consider the sorce. I never understood why talented athletes are the first to get critisied. these are just kids that want to play competive hockey and when they can't find it in there association they have to do what they feel is best for them. hockey is a very competive sport but I think more so for the parent, everyone has talent some more than others so I think that if us as coaches, players, parents took half our energy and used talent no matter at what level and pushed it more in a possitive direction in the end we would have better athletes at all levels of the game. but I geuss thats what you get for being ignorant and being so rapped in folowing your own dreams through you own child that you can't see whats right in front of you!! so my point is DON'T GIVE UP ON ATHLETE HE WON'T GIVE UP ON YOU.

I tell the kids that whine
Get the rebound stop pouting. I think parents think the kid has the same view as the player on the ice. They don't have eyes in the back of their head. Most kids skate with head down at that age and don't know how to find the open player. What happens is a kid scores 3 goals in a game and usually it's the parents are upset that the kid didn't pass the puck to their little billy. The car ride home after the team won the game you have to tell Johnny to pass the puck more. Next day in locker room I hear Johnny is a hot dog and refuses to play as a team coming from the mouths of 9 and 10 year olds. WoW I wonder how they came up with that. A good coach will handle it if a kid refuses to pass the puck.
Unless it's the coach's kid that we are talking about. This is usually over with by the time they reach Peewee Team.
Wayne Gretzky would take 300 shots on goal in a season and he always led his team in assists. He was most likely ripped as a kid for not passing to his teamates. He never played with kids his own age he always was moved up. well how about the kid that is a head of the curve early and is forced to slow down and pass to little billy. Don't you think some of the players on his line got the rebound. Some players can find ways to get shots and some can't at that age. I guess this is why the fire is an option.

Bingo, I think you hit the nail on the head. Gretzky was basically run out of his home town by the jealous one's.

Cody is a nice kid from a nice family and works hard on the ice. The complaint on him as a squirt is a very common one of kids who are more developed in hockey than their teammates at those early years. I could name 30 kids from his age group that people could have said the same.(and Im not saying that it is even true about Cody). Cody just probably stands out more because of the association he is from. Give the kid a break!
Cammerata from Maple Grove and playing for the 95 Fire this year is hands down the best scorer of 95's in the state. He and Zach Hartley must have at least over 50% of the 95 FIRE's goals this year.

Thank you Cody is a very good player who actually does pass the puck very often from the many many games I have witnnessed him play in I personnally have no idea how you get that he is far from one of the best.
I want to thank everyone for validating my original post. Let's review. First, the topic was who are among the best 95' players. I think when we say best we mean someone who has talent, who plays hard, is unselfish, and makes other players around them better. I will agree Cody has talent and plays hard. Let's take the fact that Cody is a nice person off the table since it is not part of the equation.
Now, most of you have said how you have seen Cody play with the Fire. And most of you say how in fact he does play as part of a team and passes the puck to teammates which demonstrates I am wrong and he is qualified to be put into this conversation.
However, I said that only one year earlier I have ex-players, parents, and coaches who said he was the most selfish player that have seen or played with and nobody wanted him in the association because of that style of play. One could understand it might be sour grapes or that he may have had to play that way if he was on a very bad team with no talent. However, his PeeWee A team won their district tournament and went on to play in Regions...and again, he had the 3rd or so most point on the team.....thus, he clearly wasn't head and shoulders above the other players he was playing with, and clearly there was some talent on the team.
Now, back to the issue of being selfish. Again, most said he passes the puck and is a good teammate (one person posed the question that maybe he didn't see the ice well). Well, if in one year he goes from not passing the puck and being selfish to being a good passer and being a good teammate what does that say? It says he sees the ice just fine..probably always has. What it does say is he was a selfish player one year ago and that he may have changed now. The fact that he plays well now may give him some credibility to being considered for this topic. The fact that he played the way he did one year ago tells me put in a situation where he doesn't have to comply (play as a team or you get cut) and he becomes selfish.
Last, frankly who cares. The only reason I responded initially was because there are those who know how Cody played before the Fire, which is a uinique situation and thought you should know about it.
well I geuss what we have here is somone who's son didn't have the talent to leave their association. so I geuss what we have is sour grapes. If you have to bring up somthing that happened two years ago that goes to show that we hit a nerve. Or is it because your son wasn't one of the kids that was listed as one of the top 95's?, somewhere theres a jelousy factor or you would't even be talking about such nonsense. either way you can cut throat all you want because thats how sick you are in the end good people that know meyer know what kind of a player he really is, so you can blow all the hot air you want because your not going to tear down a player like MEYER he has to much heart for the game !!!!!
All i hear about are all these great players from grand rapids throughout most of the threads on this board. Yet when i goto tournaments like superseries this weekend or other top AAA tournaments i dont see any of those kids. My point is this if you cant show up with some of the best players in the state and prove your the best put a sock in it. My son played on the minor peewee east team this weekend i noticed two very talented players at that level. (most would be 95's) They would be #4 from the west team Andrew Zerban wisconsin fire and # 5 from the north Keaton Thompson from Devils lake.
Have to laugh Buzzard at your comments as they are a rather "so there" response, rather than actually adding some facts to the conversation. BTW I'm not a parent genious.
