While the Vikes didn't seem to do much in the FA market, it didn't really seem like any of the other NFC North teams did either. If anything, most of them unloaded veteran talent. Bears resigning Briggs was the only decently big move that comes to mind.

I agree ER but at least they did get an NFL #1 WR type.

If the guy can occupy some secondary defenders so other teams can't put 8 in the box, it would be a big plus. It might also help that 2nd year WR who looks good , # 18 I think.

If Berrian can live up to the hype, that will help the passing game a lot. It will show that the Vikings are not a 1-dimensional offense too and the opposing defenses might not be able to stop Adrian Peterson, Chester Taylor & the run game as well as the did towards the end of the season.

Will it matter if the Vikes QB can't put the ball within catching distance? Teams will still stack 8 in the box, just watch.

Some talk of a possible trade with Miami-
Bryant Mckinnie for Jason Taylor.
I don't know how everyone else feels, but I like it.
Mckinnie has been okay in my opinion, but Taylor brings a pass rush.
What do you think?

I heard the talk, and I like it too. McKinnie has been okay, but not all pro level, now he has the "Vikings Code of Conduct" to worry about...
LT is a very important position, can they find something to fill gap, might be tough.
Taylor is intriguing, wasn't he D player of the year last year? He is getting older, but man, for a big guy, can he dance...

Things to do:

Pick up Taylor
Use #1 to pick up Deshon Jackson from Cal
Use #2 to pick up LT or do we have someone on RT to take McKinnie's spot?
Use #3 to pick S

Thoughts guys...

Keep McKinnie
Trade the 2nd or 3rd round pick for Taylor (not both picks one or the other)

Have to agree w/ you on the "overs" Tom

Hockey guy, but the Vikings are still my fav to watch each year, hoping that someday, that Dallas will admit the Drew Pearson pushed off on Nate Wright...
That memory still haunts me... :)

oh that's too funny! I tell that to every Dallas fan I meet also. Cheaters and Stealers ( offensive pass interference and the Northstars) Some bitterness we just hold on to. 8)

I remember the day well. I was in the shack on Shallow Lake spearing northerns. I had the radio in there. I damn near jumped into the hole at the end of that one. I believe Tarks dad passed away at the end of that one. As far as the guy with the whiskey bottle- too bad he didn't have 2 bottles with 'em that day. :D

There are a few plays in Viks history that stick in my gut.
Drew Pearson push off
Cris Carter fumble(against Giants in playoffs with McMahon)
Gary Andersen missed 38 yarder.
Those 3 plays will last me a lifetime.
Go Viks.

Get rid of McKinnie. Overrated and doesn't know how to behave off field. It shouldn't be as difficult to replace him as some may think. Any truth to the rumor that the Vikes may trade for Julius Peppers?

I was at the 38 yd. miss game with Frequent MN Flyer. The entire Metrodome was chanting "SUPER BOWL, SUPER BOWL,..." before Gary attempted the kick.

I was at the Dallas / MN game when the cowboys cheated and the referee got what he deserved (as a boy I thought so)

Sister's christmas gift to me - very top row in the left field bleacher seats leaning against the corrugated metal sheets that kept us from tumbling onto the parking lot. I will never forget the moment of silence that blanketed the stadium for an instance when the touchdown was scored.

Eller arrested after refusing breath test, allegedly assaulting officer
ESPN.com news services

MINNEAPOLIS -- Former Minnesota Vikings great Carl Eller was arrested after he refused to give a breath test for drunken driving early Wednesday.

The 66-year-old Eller, a member of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, was jailed about 2 a.m. on suspicion of driving while intoxicated, fleeing police and assaulting a police officer.

The report said police stopped Eller's vehicle and Eller punched at least one officer.

The officer later received medical treatment for bruises. Injuries to another officer were identified as minor.

Police scheduled a news conference later Wednesday.

Eller didn't immediately return calls to his home and cell phones.

In 2006, Eller was charged with driving under the influence. He later pleaded guilty.

Eller, a member of the Vikings' "Purple People Eaters" defense of the 1970s, was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 2005. He played in four Super Bowls over a 16-year career spanning from 1964 to 1979 and was voted to six Pro Bowls.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.

No wonder the Vikes traded so many players for one guy - they actually got several in return! It's just a shame that none of them was a decent running back.

Thank you. I'll be here all night. Tip your waitress.
Well well well... here's another "media" outlet looking to the bored for info. From Sportspickle.com:

Vindicated Vikings GM now knows he got 8 Herschel Walkers in 1989 Cowboys trade

Nearly 19 years after making what many view as the worst trade in NFL history, former Minnesota Vikings general manager Mike Lynn feels completely vindicated for acquiring Herschel Walker from the Cowboys in exchange for a heavy bounty.

“We sent Dallas some good players and some high draft picks that they used on superstars,” said Lynn. “But can you honestly tell me that those guys were worth eight Herschel Walkers? It’s not even close. We got one of the top backs in the league eight times over.”

Walker, who now claims he has multiple personalities, says the Vikings would have won multiple Super Bowls during his tenure in Minnesota if all of his personalities would have been able to get on the field.

“I had this one guy inside me, Jimmy Stillman, a big, strong, corn-fed, quarterback with a rifle arm,” said Walker. “And then there was Deshawn ‘The Destroyer’ Dawkins – the meanest, toughest linebacker you’ve ever seen. He would have had 25, 30 sacks a year easy. I also had a few great role players and the best punter you’ve ever seen.”

The former Vikings general manager, who became despised in Minnesota for the trade, says he hopes he will now be forgiven and that Walker’s admission will allow more people to understand multiple personality disorders.

“I have two personalities,” said Lynn. “The one people know me best for, and one that is a total dumbass. I always thought it was the dumbass that made that trade. Turns out it was the smart one.”
