Now that we know Sarah Erickson is Ms. Hockey 2008, it's never too early to look at next year's award...

Becky Kortum - Hopkins

Already committed to U of MN. All of the college coaches know her and they do the voting.

Unless someone else has a better NDP summer.

other finalists...
Komerek (sp) - Blake
Romantowski - AHA
Dahl - Stillwater

I think with a solid Sr campaign the above players are the top end of this class. Here are some others that need to be considered as well:

Nelson Andover
Berreman Eagan
Lundquist CEC
Hallar Anoka
Knajdek Hill
Zrust Blaine

Summer league... :?:

The good girls may be known, I understand, but I would advocate watching who emerges during the 08-09 season, rather than NDP this summer... Just a thought...

I agree that the season should be the basis for the decision but the division 1 coaches from the WCHA as well as the division 3 coaches from MN and WI choose the top 10 and the winner. The ballot is sent out by LPH.

Thus, all of those coaches are watching the National Development tryouts. Play well there and you have secured a spot for the U18 team and a spot in the top 10 for Ms. Hockey.

This certainly is intriguing news. I must confess to complete unfamiliarity with Miss Kortum as I haven't seen Hopkins in a few seasons. Can anyone take a moment to shed some light on Becky? If so...Thank You very much!

Her verbal committment to the U has been pretty widely known for some time. Very smooth skater as well as fine team player who can finish. Has really come into her own this past year. Will play again this spring/summer for the MN Icecats.

It probably won't be someone completely out of the blue, but it's surprising how some players will emerge in their senior season. A good summer's worth of very hard work will do that.

Many already mentioned; some names to look for from another thread:
SADIE LUNDQUIST/CEC
SALLY KOMEREK/BLAKE
CALLIE DAHL/STILLWATER
MOLLY AROLA/GRG
ALEX NELSON/ANDOVER
BECKY KORTUM/HOPKINS
JANNESSA HALLER/ANOKA
ERIKA WHEELHOUSE/CROOKSTON
KELSEY ROMATOWSKI/AHA
LAUREN ZRUST/BLAINE

It's way too early, but I like Zrust as a serious contender.

I really believe the Gophers already have the verbal for next year's winner. The race is for the other final 4.

Yes Dana Gallop will be a junior next year but look for her to be in the running for this award in 2010.

Nicole Anderson of Shakopee should be in the mix- she flies under a lot of peoples radar but can really play.

Best player I've seen is the Magnuson girl from Fergus Falls. IMO by far the best player at the 6A/6AA Advanced 17's. And yes, Becky Kortum was there!
