Rentley wrote:Food for thought.....I was able to watch all of the section 5 tryouts for both ages. Well organized, with approximately 35 girls per age group, including goalies. Three 1.5 hour sessions with about 45 minutes of drills in the first session, culminating with scrimmaging for the remainder of the first session, and all of the next 2 sessions. The level of play seemed to be competitive, although the talent discrepency was very evident at both ages.

The only negative that I heard was people were asking for specific times for phase 3 due to their respective schools prom's, ACT tests, and the administrator was not able to provide the information. (I guess there is life away from hockey  ) Overall, this section was run very well.
Section 4 Interesting the differences on approach versus 5 - looks like a higher turnout in S5 vs. S4 also.... 23 + 5 G and the 19 + 2 G in the '92 and '91.

Section 4 was very focused on drills 1-0, 1-1, 2-1 and small games 1-1, 2-2, 3-3...out of the four sessions Monday 60 minutes - 20 minutes of scrimmage; Friday 60 minutes - 30 minutes of scrimmage; Saturday 60 minutes - 30 minutes of scrimmage; Sunday 90 minutes - 30 minutes of scrimmage. The scrimmages were a combination of full ice 5-5, 4-4 and 3-3. There was about 30 minutes of goalie evaluation on Sunday with goalies on one end with a coach and shooters.

The Stillwater staff who ran the tryouts along with WB coach GM and one of the CDH asst coaches did a great job - every kid was involved and all were dragging by the end of the very up tempo sessions - everybody had a chance to stand out or show their best.

Phase III is the Final 51 to pick players to advance further, players are placed on different teams and the 16 and 17 have games that weekend. I do believe it is a little hard to give out specific times before you know which team you have been assigned to. Maybe somewhere on the Mn Hockey site there are the results from last years games and that could maybe give an idea of the hours used.

Interesting the difference in how sections 4 and 5 were run. There were no goalie specific evaluations in 5, and all of the scrimmage sessions were 5 on 5. You can put many different tryout processes together, but still the "cream should rise to the top" no matter what process is in place. Unfortunately, if the processes are not consistant from section to section, you open the flood gates for people to scrutinize the process.

I believe that Joan and her group has done a tremendous job in the past in evaluating the talent, and getting the top players to NY, and I believe that the new group will do the same.

I would also agree that the girls should be present for all sessions during the process, and would be dissappointed if this was not the case. (IMO) This gets back to my previous post, in regards to the question about times for phase 3, and potential conflicts. If there was no penalty for missing a session in 1st phase, why would there be for 3rd phase? Don't get me wrong, I believe that the top players priorities are definately hockey, but you never know!

Hope the rosters are finalized soon as practices are this weekend and plans to travel as well as schedules need to be arranged or rearranged for this weekend and next for players invited. Given the low numbers identified at try-outs it should be fairly easy to get these out soon.

Agreed. Also, some of us are on vacation and will be cutting vacation short if our daughter makes the team. It would be nice to know what to do before hand.

Hopefully we'll see something posted this afternoon. My guess is that they are mostly done with maybe one or two stragglers, and they are waiting for them so they can post everything all at once. Just a hunch on my part.

Saw that, too. Hopefully they will post very soon so plans can be made by girls and their parents.

Are all the sections having practice over the weekend?

Section 4 starts Saturday morning.
Section 2 starts Friday. I couldn't wait any longer I booked my daughter on an earlier flight. I hope its not a waste of money. Because of the wonderful timing I got beat up pretty bad on price but there weren't many seats left.

I have heard through the grapevine that they have notified the girls "up North" of the selections. These would be for Sections 7 and 8. So I would imagine that it can't be too much longer for the others.

How are the girls getting notified, email or phone calls as it has not been posted.

It looks like less than half of the sections have been notified depending on who is reading and posting on here.

Sections 1, 3 through 6.

Section 2 was notified by email. I think because they had a practice Monday night. Talked to one of the parents tonight.

Hats off to the sections' GM and coaches that have notified their girls in alternative manners as the website information is not being updated in the timeliness that the girls were told.

Consistency seems to be a challenge this year in communication and try-out process with the new format but I am sure they will review and make improvements for the future. It sounds like some of the try-outs were very well run.

Section 4 has not been contacted but GM is checking to see if he can release information via e-mail - they have done a great job and had info in as of last Sunday....but some section or whoever is supposed to post must have a section that can't get info in?

Interesting that 1,3,6,7,8 went ahead and got information out - I think it is great that they are communicating and keeping the process moving - does it mean that section 2 or 5 can't get info in?

I know everyone inovled in this has the right intentions to make this a great experience.

I meant it looks like these are the sections that had not been notified based on the postings here. As someone posted that 7 and 8 had been notified and someone had mentioned 2 (but it was actually 3 with the follow up post). When I write it always makes sense to me but not necessarily the reader. Sorry for any confusion.

Any way, it appears sections 1, 2, 4, 5, 6 have not released their information (based on the posts here). It sounds like 3 already had a practice on Monday which would have required almost immediate notification for their girls. Just hope they get all the information out soon as I know there are girls waiting and will have to rearrange their schedules for practices this weekend.

Another consideration is that the applications for the Junior Festival are due this Saturday, April 5th. They will have separate tryouts for this tournament, except those that participate in the Phase 2 tourney are exempt from having to go to these separate tryouts. They will instead be evaluated at the Phase 2 games from 4/11-4/13. The parents of these players will also save the $60 tryout fee. To make sure the Junior Festival applications are received by Saturday, they should probably be mailed today, so hopefully the Phase 2 rosters will be posted before last mail call this afternoon.

Yes! The Advanced communication process is clearly bogging down somewhere and hope they remedy it as quickly as possible. If there is a section not getting their information in deal with them individually and list the other sections' rosters or at least let them communicate with their players.

The link has been changed but no rosters posted yet.
