Freshman/Sophomore Camp
Does anyone that has a daughter that attended the freshman/sophomore camp care to give an opinion of the camp from last year? I'd appreciate the input.

My daughter attended the camp last year as a Freshman and loved it. She enjoyed the comaraderie with the other girls. The coaches worked the them hard both on the ice and off. Her coach for the week was Brano Stankovsky from Blake...great coach and a nice guy. Assuming it doesn't conflict too much with other sports, she is planning on attending again this summer.

MGHCA does invites for those who are Freshmen or Sophomores right now. I think coaches send the MGHCA their nominations for who they think should be invited, and I think some coaches just send all the names of their freshmen/sophomores. Believe there is an invite to a tryout for the camp, at least that's how it has been done in the past.

When does this/did this take place? Did they already invite and have tryouts?OntheEdge wrote:The girls are notified by mail. It is my understanding that Phase 2 was a tryout and for those girls that were not in Phase 2 there was a separate tryout at New Hope on the same weekend as Phase 2. I could be wrong but I think that is the way it was handled.Silent But Deadly wrote:When does this/did this take place? Re: invites
Yes they went out quite a while ago. Paperwork, if attending, was asked to be returned by May 23rd. They may still be inving alternates though.wild77 wrote:have the letters inviting the girls to the freshman/sophomore camp gone out?
freshman/soph camp
Does anyone have any info for 2009 on this such as when it takes place, cost, tryout etc? My daughter is participating in MN Adv 16 phase 2.
Re: freshman/soph camp
I know it will be the week after the 4th of July (5-10), but I don't have the particulars as to cost or try-out process this year.flyingV wrote:Does anyone have any info for 2009 on this such as when it takes place, cost, tryout etc? My daughter is participating in MN Adv 16 phase 2.
Re: freshman/soph camp
According to last year, the camp was supposed to be for girls that played varsity as freshmen or sophomores. For this year that means that girls that played varsity as freshmen or sophs for the 2008/2009 are eligible. In general, girls are selected by one of two ways. They are either evaluated at the NDP Phase 2 or if a player doesn't tryout for NDP or didn't make it as far as Phase 2 then there is a separate tryout held on the Phase 2 weekend. That was the way they did it last year. It might have changed this year. The important thing is that if you think your daughter is eligible and she would like to attend make sure that you pursue it with your coach because typically they have openings and sometimes girls that should be there fall through the cracks when invitations are sent.allhoc11 wrote:I know it will be the week after the 4th of July (5-10), but I don't have the particulars as to cost or try-out process this year.flyingV wrote:Does anyone have any info for 2009 on this such as when it takes place, cost, tryout etc? As with anything in hockey there are always exceptions to the rules. Last year I was told that one school's entire JV team was at the camp (not exactly girls that played Varsity). Regardless of the exceptions, I heard that most of the girls loved the camp. It was hard work but there was lots of camradrie and good development. The talent was probably not as top notch as was touted but I heard that the camp was still good. I can't remember the cost (I think it was around $600) but it was similar to what you would pay for a similar overnight camp, maybe a little less. All and all, my daughter worked hard and had fun and I think she would recommend it to others.
