Elite Classic Tournament

Post by CreaseMonkey »

Wondering how the level of play was at the tournament this year.
My son played on the Major Squirt North team, but I was not able to attend. My wife is horrible at relaying any kind of details, so I am just curious as to how teams looked at the various levels.
I know last year our team struggled, probably due to carrying more kids at the younger end of the age bracket. They did better this year, but still came up short in the championship.

Interesting on the coach getting tossed.
Neither my wife nor son mentioned that till I asked him about it just now, but it sounds like that was a pretty interesting exchange before he finally left the bench.
They did say that the East team was really good, and knew it would be a good match up after loosing to them 2-1 in the opening game. Too bad the wheels kind of came off the bus for the North in the 2nd half.

I watched Minor and Major Sq and PeeWee games. Each age class had at least 3 strong teams. Games were exciting, kids played well, had fun. Good time for all

Top teams

North Mites dominated
West Minor Sq was solid
East Major Sq was solid, North Sq was big.
3 Solid Minor PeeWee teams. West, East, South
North and South Major PeeWee teams were solid

East Major Squirt team looked good !! #7 Zarembinski and #11 Reilly have nice size and very good skills. Graveline, Dehnart, Daugaard, Steffen, and Wippler played good also. Very hard to score on there goalies.

Not too well this year. North lost to East in the consolation round. Not sure of the score, but there was a differential of 3 or 4 goals.

They didn't just lose, they were embarrassed.

what was the score? i dont understand how that can happen when ur suppose to be some of the best kids from the north and u loose to some kids that were just thrown on a team for the. obviously the grand rapids kids play together but they still probablly should of been beat

Not sure of a final score, they didn't officially keep track. The GR kids, mostly A Pee Wees were just that much better. They played together and just had fun. The Elite team looked like a typical AAA team. A few good players, then buddies kids and couisins and friends of friends. There weren't a whole lot of good players on that team and it showed.

Ouch that had to sting getting beat by a bunch of pee wee kids. Sounds like it is time to remove the AAA. Why wouldn't the coach want to try put together a competitive team to take down south? You are representing a large area with some good hockey talent why not get out and scout a bit for some top talent? Cannot be that hard to find. Maybe it is simply too much going on that time of year for a lot of kids in that age group (VFW, Advanced 15, other AAA tournaments).

i wouldnt say the north bantams got embarresed. they hat about 9 kids and had never played together. they won their first game. they had some good players but they were on the small side for the most part. they were also playing against kids a year older than them being that they were all first years
