Team Minnesota Chicago Showcase

Post by ColdasIce »

Could anybody who is going send along some updates and highlights? Tournament begins on Wednesday and runs thru Sunday.
Looks like Team Minnesota has a decent squad assembled.

Anybody know the venue. I'll be in Chicago Thurs - Sun and may be able to catch a game in between the USHL Showcase. Would like to watch if possible.

Each team plays a game before going to Chicago. So MN's first game is on Monday (April 14th) against North Dakota. (Wakota, South St. Paul @ 1:30)
Then they will head out to Chicago and I believe play New York, Illinois, and Pittsburg. Should be some great hockey and lets hope the boys win it all for MN :D

Team Minnesota over Team North Dakota 5-2 w/empty netter at the finish. I thought both Browns, Nagel, and Kesti were the stand-outs. They definitely went with the larger guys for this squad!

Looks like Tom McCarthy (Benilde), Joe Becker (Moorhead), Justin Jokinen (Cloquet), Steve Zierke (Benilde) and Ryan Bohrer (Cretin) gone from the original roster.

Dan Cecka (Hill-Murray), Joe Krause (Hermantown), Aaron Molstad (Stillwater) and Nick Thielen (Moorhead) added.

I think Anderson kid from Mankato West should have been an alternate....He was very good that weekend and Section 1A/AA won Great 8 yet only has 2 players. ????.....Not to say this team doesnt have anyone that doesn't deserve to be there. Just a thouht since they did win it and he was one of their better players in my opinion.

alot of section 1 was left off. Talking to someone that was there sunday, a couple of the 1AA kids should have made the chicago team. Yumu gave up 2 goals in 3 games, including 0 in the championship and doesnt get asked..Anderson from MW played well...only 2 from the Championship team? yeah, im sure the team isnt picked "ahead of time" lol

Don't know each individual story, but not every player at the Great 8 chooses to participate in the Chicago Showcase. So the team is selected from those that indicate a desire to play. It is a week-long commitment.

Anyone know why the roster changed so much between its original posting and the team that went? 8)

I'm sure it's different for each player. In Jokinen's case, he accepted a college scholarship. I wonder if others that skipped out are accepting an offer in the near future. :?:

Dan Cecka looks like a wise addition with his three point performance. Nelson, Belisle, and Larson were also three point scorers. Moser had two goals. Way to go Minnesota!!

Several players turned down the opportunity to play. I would say there are two main reasons. Cost; the tourney costed each player close to $1000. Also, the tourney overlaps with Xposure camp which likely draws more scouts.

why is everybody suprised we SHOULD win this every year. and beating Illinois by 1 goal is not impressive. Illinois high school hockey is absolutely a joke i havent watched any other states but i have seen Illinois and I am not even exaggerating when I say it most of the kids have no reason to be on the ice.
