New Ulm baseball is a joke, they play junk teams and the coaches sophmore nephew is on varsity, he makes TONS of errors and cant hit to save his life.

From an article in the Mankato Free Press talking about the current coach who took over the baseball team in New Ulm: "taking over for coaching legend Jim Senske who retired in 2004 after 39 yrs. with 707wins , the most wins in the history of Minnesota baseball ", including a STATE CHAMPIONSHIP in class AAA (large schools)

New Ulm is a dynasty in HS Baseball. I played against Terry Steinback & crew in '79 & '80, best team we ever played during my HS days...

I think you hit on a key point about Southern Mn (SMN) hockey. There are some great athletes playing hockey on SMN teams, but do they get a majority of the best HS athletes to play hockey, I don't think they do today. Tradition. In Southern MN, winter sports such as Basketball & Wrestling are king...
Until Southern MN hockey can capture the majority of each school's best athletes, Depth will always be what will hold them back when they get to the State tournament. Yes, once in a while, a team or two from the South will put together some sophmores, juniors and senior leadership to make a run, but that will not happen consistently until they develop more talent depth, year in year out...

I can only speak for Section 1.

Arentz 4 goals against

section 1A doesnt have depth like the metro teams because they cant transfer to another school that is 10 min away. Southern teams are usualy all home grown not to many transfers like the metro teams.

The goalie that should get consideration is Bruggeman. Had the best numbers from the winter of the six goalies coming into the festival, gave up 1 goal the first weekend, (least of any goalie and gave up the least amount during the second weekend which I believe was 3). Not a flashy goalie but stops the puck which from what i hear is what the goalie is supposed to do.

Agree with you on Leddy. I thought he was the best player on the ice the whole weekend

I did'nt see Hotchkins name mentioned, did he not have a very good weekend, and also I would'nt count out the range kids, not because of how good they are, but because of the evaluators that are there, they made it through the first weekend section tourny. Would'nt surprise me.

Hotchkins a good player, What I noticed after watching him is he hardly ever gives up the puck. But that may be the nature of the beast at these events since the emphasis seems to be "all about me"
