How do team get invited for this tourney? I know the older kids it's based on prior performance by the '99 age group, these kids haven't played together for the most part.
There was some quality teams in the '99 open last weekend. Just curious how they decided which '99 teams should play in the invite this weekend.

I personally hope the 94 bracket can filter into crossover games with the Blades-Blackhawks (4-3 in Chicago last week) and Blades-Team Midwest (5-5 tie in Chicago last week).
Wait, these games may be played in D6, so perhaps not. The big hitting and physical play in Chicago will only lead to droves of "head contact", "elbows", "boarding", "roughing" and whatever else tat wasn't called there that will be called here. Perhaps not playing rivalry games will be better...

What are you talking about. The location of these games in the summer does not equal D6 refs. Odds are you will see few or none all weekend as most do not do showcase hockey.Tenoverpar wrote:I personally hope the 94 bracket can filter into crossover games with the Blades-Blackhawks (4-3 in Chicago last week) and Blades-Team Midwest (5-5 tie in Chicago last week).

i have two boys playing in the tourney.
valley hawks in the 94's
jr islanders in the 95's
the 94's get the chance to play the blades and the 95's get to play the machine so you cant ask for anything better than that. im just hoping for a good showing on the ice and alot of fun! ofcourse with two kids playing it doesnt leave much time to do much. i stay at a friends place in maple grove. he has a really nice paved walking trail behind his house with a good variaty of wildlife. the yearly ritual has been a good walk and grilling but looking at the schedule its just not gona happen this year. i know what you guys are thinking theirs alot of wildlife where i live which is true but the diffrence is on the maple grove hick it all stands their like a zoo..lol in this neck of the woods everything runs about as fast as you see it and the geese fly 3 miles high..lol oh and yes ill be at the cup next weekend.

We are out there, and plenty of us (D6 refs). What you will see is a mix of refs from all over the metro, which may lead to a little confusion. D6 calls it tighter than most, however I don’t say that with pride…just stating the facts. With regard to out of town team coming in, I think they might get frustrated with how Minnesota refs call the games tighter. I officiated a couple of game last night with a ref from D3 that did some officiating in Chicago and he experiences some challenges with the way he called the games in Chicago with a Minnesota influence.
Hopefully, the officiating teams will call a consistence game that will ultimately set the tone for the players, coaches and parents. I will be on the ice this weekend, I look forward to it and I hope I have a good, solid partner that calls the same game I do…
Good Luck to all…

I would be one of those awful D6 refs as well. I can tell you that these games are not being called as tight as what they are in the winter. Someone should tell showcase that they get what they pay for!!!hiptzech wrote:To the contrary Quacker,QuackerTracker wrote:What are you talking about. last weekend I watched someone waive off the first 12 icings in a game. You could tell his partner was getting a little steamed. I just feel bad for the little goalies (these were 9 year olds) because they would probably corral the puck on some of them but they let them go (probably because they've been talked to about touching pucks that are headed for icing) because they are iced. Than when the call isn't made they are left out of position and with a puck behind the net or bounced back out front.

I don't think 12 icings could be correct. There are generally not 12 icings in a Bantam game. But you should write to showcase and tell them to rank officials and pay them more so they do a better job!!!DMom wrote:last weekend I watched someone waive off the first 12 icings in a game. ref
Quacker and Hipczech...
I didn't say that D6 refs were BAD, I simply stated the FACTS as I've been part of this year..
D6 refs will and do and have this year in the 30+ games I watched in that District, call the game very different from any other place in the entire country.
In my opinion, any and all REFs call the game from their vantage point on the ice, which differs from everyone else in the building, who are we to disagree. Call what you need to, but the compelling story is that there is a general feeling I believe that when you go to D6 or if a team comes to Minnesota, playing a physical style of hockey goes out the window entirely. If your team is a grind-em and pound-em team, you're going to have a long day.
Penalties are going to happen, it's inherent to the game. When 2 teams have a combined total of 20 plus penalties in a game, the interpretation of play by the REF will be questioned whether we like it or not. 5 on 5 hockey is a great thing with quality teams on the ice. There will be alot of good hockey players and teams going at it this weekend, enjoy it.

quack
Quack..I beleive the solution is two-fold. First, parents/coaches/players have to be objective in the calls made on the ice and understand the view point differential is huge. Second, REF's on the ice need to have thick skin and as hockey poeple, undertand that calls arent' always going to be right and that if you are a ref and are constantly finding yourself bashed by said parents/players/coaches night after night, could be time for self improvement or analysis of your game. It is not solely in any one place, but lies within the hockey community as a whole.

Trust me I didn't take your comment the wrong way...Like you just giving a little insight. I hope I walk away from my games this weekend (any game for that matter) with all involved saying that was a great game, and I enjoyed watching it. There is nothing more rewarding to me than when the coaches and players skate up, put out their hand and say "good game".
Enjoy your games and I hope that you get good quality officiating...

Quack - could not resist... If you are saying that the Meltdown games will be called more loosely than the D6 winter season due to less pay, then I propose that we cut the D6 ref pay rate!!!
