Hockey becomes official sport of MN

Post by doubleOHseven »

We all knew this before, but the MN government is actually recognizing hockey as the state's official sport:

http://www.startribune.com/politics/state/18788084.html

Excerpt: "The DFL-led House voted 82-49 to send Gov. Tim Pawlenty the education bill, which, in addition to pushing up the dropout age, also would declare hockey to be the official state sport. The Senate passed the bill earlier."

I'm glad our political leaders work so hard to pass important legislation like this.

An education bill? Based on some of the posts I've seen on the bored, I'd say that is important.

Maybe it's the cynic in me, but maybe the Dem's put it in the bill thinking that if Pawlenty vetoed the bill, they can tell everyone the gov vetoed a bill making hockey the official state sport?

Or if he signed it into law they can say they wrote the bill. And that sort of stupid politics happens both ways...

Someone tell the Star Tribune! Perhaps they will give hockey as much press as women's basketball after this declaration.

Sure its important to all of the ultra liberal face in the public trough crowd who see government as the cure to all evil so long as its somebody else's taxes that pay for it.

But to some good folks, making hockey the official state sport is important. We dont have to spend every dollar ever printed and every waking hour on public education before we do anything else.
